The Looming Presidency of A Dangerous Donald Trump

Read Time:8 Minute, 29 Second

I have often wondered how just how long it would take for this country to go down the same road as most great nations have traveled. America is a very young nation that got too big and powerful probably too fast.

When we look at the history of the world most countries that have remained at least somewhat stable over time have had their ups and downs. Their people have endured plagues, wars, and changes in governmental styles and even tyranny. In most cases they have grown from it. I wonder if this country, in its youth and naivety, will last and endure as those other great societies.

America was a country less than a hundred years old before it had its civil war which was centered around whether it was appropriate to hold humans as property in slavery.

While the war was fought 150 years ago and the decision was rendered that it was not appropriate for people to own other people the basic concept, as written in the Declaration of Independence, is still in question in the minds of many Americans. Anyone who doubted that only needed to watch the previous two elections and the rancor toward our first black president.

The history of this country shows that this land was populated by black people almost as long as it was populated by white people but it is not unusual for some whites to say “Go back to Africa.”

The racial divide, though many try to keep it hidden, is alive and well in America and yet it is only one of the deep divides that put America’s future in doubt.

In addition there is also the economic divide in which a small minority of people has a vast amount of money.  There are a tremendous number of people who try to survive from one paycheck to another, that is, of course, if they have a job.  While under the Obama administration the unemployment rate has fallen to the lowest rate in many decades there are still many people who are underemployed, meaning that they have a lesser job than they did before the big recession, or they are part time workers now where they were full time workers before.

The dissatisfaction among those workers was placed on the shoulders of President Obama, and not on his republican predecessor or the obstructionist antics of the Republican congress. This was solely based on the hard liners “my way or the highway” ideology but it was a wrongly placed idiom.

In all fairness to President Obama he was not a left wing, wildly progressive president and he received a fair amount of criticism for that. He was a moderate by every measure. He actually fought off the far left progressives and tried to maintain a balance in the government.

John Boehner recognized this and tried to work with him until he could no longer stand the antics of the far right.

The dissatisfaction among the American people with the Affordable Care Act did not arise out of the general population. It arose from the demagoguery of the hard right and people like Ted Cruz. The vast majority of the Republicans never even read the Act nor did the people who opposed it.

The Affordable Care Act was not a government program as they all claimed but a government subsidized program that was an attempt to offer certain guarantees to the insurance industries.

There was one element that has kept the ACA from being a roaring success: mandatory participation. Yes, they had penalties that attached to the IRS returns but they were insufficient for mandatory requirements. The key to the whole program would have made it like Medicare where it was a payroll deduction, or some similar manner that everyone was paying for insurance whether they wanted to or not.

What happened was a large number of people in the low risk pool simply did not participate, which left primarily high risk persons.  Naturally the rates were going to continue to rise to cover the insurance companies cost and their guarantee profits.

It was not hard after that for the Republican screechers to ramp up the anti-big government gnashing of teeth. It was the same category of idiots that are part of the “Obama is trying to take our guns away” crowd. Put that on top of the less than covert racism directed toward Obama, and you had a long running battle that Republicans even shamed their moderates into joining.

So, now, here we are with only a few days until a totally unqualified man is about to assume the office of the presidency. As much as I want to be wrong about this, I fully realize that I probably am not.

Here we have a man who is a braggart, narcissist, misogynistic, self-promoting, profiteer is about to assume the top position in our country, and perhaps in the world. What is more, it seems that he was to some degree assisted by the Russian government. I do not say that lightly. He was the one that during the campaign, first mentioned that he admired Russian President Putin and started propagandizing the idea of getting along with Russia.

He was saying that the Russians were not so bad after all. He was saying this even though we were still struggling with Russia over their invasion of Crimea and the Ukraine.  He was the one that said something to the effect that perhaps Russia might want to look into Clinton’s missing e mails.

What we are finding out is that he or one of his surrogates was in contact with the Russians. Then, when our professional intelligence people began to actually get evidence that Russia may have hacked the DNC, and released information derogatory to Clinton, he began to demean our intelligence agencies. His only rationale was they got the WMD’s wrong about Iraq.

The entire time he was denying and dismissing the findings of our intelligence agencies, not just a few, but all of them.

Then Trump began putting his cabinet together, and for Secretary of State he nominates the CEO of Exxon Oil, someone who has been given a medal by the Russians for being a special friend.

It seems that, because of the sanctions that the U.S. has placed upon Russia, only a minuscule amount of the Russian potential oilfields that Exxon has leased the rights to, have been drilled for oil.

According to Rachel Maddow’s January 13th report, of the 63 million acres of land Exxon has leased for drilling, they are only able to drill on a precious few of them because of the sanctions. Now, far be it for me to try to make a conspiracy out of a straight line, but Trump had said at first that he would lift the sanctions on Russia and now says he will wait a little while to see how it goes.

I know Trump believes that everyone but him is stupid, and that is probably true for his supporters, but I can see this snow job coming in the middle of July while standing in Death Valley.

All through his campaign, Donald Trump kept saying he was going to “Make America Great Again.” In his mind he was thinking” I am going to make Donald Trump the Richest Man on Earth.”

Look at those he has appointed to his cabinet: they are all billionaires and he has set the example by saying he will not divest himself, so they need not divest themselves from their companies. His top security communications director is, and there is no other way to put it, a shameless serial plagiarist. His Secretary of State nominee admitted that he and Trump have not discussed the country’s foreign policy. What’s to discuss? Lift the sanctions and drill baby drill.

He has said he is not going to be involved in the minute details of running the government. Of course not, because he will still be watching out for his own business interest.  His NSA appointee is not being investigated about his recent visits and contacts with Russia. I knew going into this thing that he was in debt to Russian lenders of questionable character to the tune of about ¾ billion dollars and I said as much in an earlier article.

I have a lot of years of investigative experience. I always remain objective and let the evidence guide me to my conclusions. Right now I know that Donald Trump has and still does praise the president of one of our longest standing enemies. Putin has done the same for Donald Trump. The latter mentioned during a debate that maybe the Russians should look into Clinton’s emails.

The consensus of all 17 intelligence agencies was the Russians did hack into both the DNC and the RNC data bases. Based on the same intelligence the Russians released information to the notorious Wikileaks, and it was only about Clinton. At least two of Trump’s staffers had worked with Russians or Russian operatives prior to working with Trump. Despite the appearance of improprieties Trump continues to cast aspersions on American intelligence services.

Trump has appointed a person who has everything to gain by being friendly with the Russians. When I look at this I am seeing lots and lots of smoke. When I add to that Donald Trump cares so little for the country that he will not even embrace a complete and thorough investigation. It is time to call the fire department because I am beginning to smell smoke.

I know some of his supporters will scoff at this because they are blind fools, but I have watched Russia for a long time. On at least one occasion it was almost too close, and I’ve seen my share of scams. This is one of those scams.

Neil, I hope you are right but Putin has a long term goal of breaking up NATO and I think Trump is part of his plan. When that happens we are all in trouble.

Trump will (probably) be President a while. The world will wish he wasn’t then, assuming we are all still here, everything will change again.

As long as nuclear war is averted it’ll be ok.

Eventually.
