An Englishman Wants To Know If Trump-Russian Connections Are Just ‘Rumors’

The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics may be coming back to haunt us but, not necessarily in the same location it once was. On the other hand, perhaps it will be located as it was with an unexpected addition. Clearly the Russian annexation of a bit of the Ukraine is somewhat concerning but, to return to it’s former glory – for want of a better word, Russia would have to annex an enormous swathe of what is now Eastern Europe and bits of Asia to get it’s old territories back again and, in all seriousness, that ain’t gonna happen – or is it?

Rumours are increasingly abounding that President Trump may or may not have had some ‘input’ from Russia during his election campaign. More rumours suggest Russia may have actually aided him in some way.

Now this sounds very far fetched but, given the fact Trump is clearly the most maverick President in history, he will undoubtedly be surrounded by rumour for his entire term – assuming he gets through an entire term.

Rumours are just that. Rumours. They are called rumours because there is no evidence to support them. On the whole rumours tend to be untrue or, at best, exaggerated. On the other hand, very occasionally, rumours turn out to be true or, at the very least, have a substantial amount of truth in them.

Quite how much truth there is in the Trump / Russia rumours remains to be seen but, somewhat alarmingly, never before have there been any rumours of American Presidents and Russia in a sense that would be detrimental to the west.

Nixon was as dodgy as they come and even he didn’t suffer from any pro-Russian rumours. Well, I don’t think he did. Didn’t make the news over here anyway so I doubt it.

Has Trump been compromised by Russian prostitutes? No idea. Is Trump in Putin’s pocket? No idea. Did Russia have any influence over Trumps election? No idea.

The important words there I would suggest are ‘no idea’.

That, to me, is the nub of the matter.

Let’s just say, for the sake of argument, that at some unspecified time in the future, evidence emerges that Ronald Reagan or Jimmy Carter or the President of your choice was shown to have been, to what ever extent, a Russian spy or beholden to the Russians for some indiscretion we didn’t no about.

We would say “What??? Really??? No way!!!” – and, as it happens, we would probably be right. Mind you, stranger things have happened eh?

That, as I said, is the nub of the matter.

We have been fooled before. Trusted people in various high offices have turned out to be not the trusted people we thought they were. In theory even the most trusted in the highest office could, one day, be exposed as not being what we believed them to be. Anything is possible.

The thing is, at least we could say ‘Wow! Really? JFK was a Russian mole?’ – clearly incidentally he wasn’t I hasten to add – er – probably – cue Twilight Zone music.

The problematic thing with Trump at the moment is that he is, for better or worse, the American President and yet, even outside of America, people are increasingly wondering about this ‘Russian business’.

Just how much does he actually like Putin? Does he actually hate Putin but Russia have some kind of influence over him and, if so, why? Is there any truth in that prostitute claim? Has he business interests that require Russian cooperation to maintain them?

No idea and, the very words ‘no idea’ take on a whole new meaning with Trump.

I truly have ‘no idea’ whether some American President of the past will, one day, be exposed as being not entirely what we thought he was but, as it stands, at least we believed genuinely that any said former President was what he was. Whether that is ‘Tricky Dicky’ Nixon corrupt to the bone or Ronnie ‘aw shucks’ Reagan – not the brightest star in the firmament but, at least, a real person of integrity up to a point. Well, not a Russian spy at least.

The lack of sensible denial from the current Presidential team regarding any number of rumours is increasingly worrying.

Trump accused the secret services of leaking information to the media – and he may well be right. That wasn’t a worry. What was a worry is that the supposed leaked information did not reflect well on the Donald yet he didn’t deny it, he merely was upset it was leaked.

Has Putin’s Russia got some kind of ‘hold’ on Trump?

The real worry is that, across the globe, that question is still being asked and, to date, nothing emerging from the Trump camp is reducing these concerns.

Even if the President’s team actually do refute claims of this nature, they are perceived as so untrustworthy that they may well not be believed even if they are telling the truth.

If Trump was Britain’s Prime Minister his position would be very, very close to untenable and, almost certainly, a resignation would be very much on the horizon under these circumstances.

I, and I suspect, many millions around the world are amazed that Trump is still surviving in his exalted position given his inability to squash all the rumours regarding Russia.

Still. It’s America and we mustn’t judge others by our own standards eh?

After all, even if America is about to become the USSR (United Soviet States of Russia?) it’s their business not ours – until it is our business and then, boy will we all be in deep, deep shit?

Besides. None of it can be true. Donald says so. Oh. That’s all right then.

Because he won the electoral college. There are removal mechanisms but they take time.

Because the republicans in office are too scared of his base to do anything about the treasonous bastard. Hopes this helps.

Now let’s see: rumors? Actually all 17 intelligence agencies in the US (and yes there are 17) as well as allied intelligence gathering agencies have uncovered a Trump-Russia connection. They have wiretaps, witnesses, and etc. It’s not a rumor, but a fact, and soon, very soon, the chickens will come home to roost.
