Historians: These 11 Presidents Were Better Than Obama
Barack Obama was the best US president since Ronald Reagan, but he’s got nothing on Abraham Lincoln.
At least, that’s the takeaway from a C-SPAN survey of 91 historians who helped rank the best presidents in US history based on 10 criteria, including administrative skill, moral authority, crisis leadership, and pursuit of equal justice, per Time.
While Obama faltered in international relations, he scored high in managing the economy and public persuasion, coming in at the 12th spot overall, an “impressive” achievement for his first appearance in the survey, one historian tells CNN.
Here’s the first 11:
- Abraham Lincoln
- George Washington
- Franklin D. Roosevelt
- Theodore Roosevelt
- Dwight D. Eisenhower
- Harry S. Truman
- Thomas Jefferson
- John F. Kennedy
- Ronald Reagan
- Lyndon B. Johnson
- Woodrow Wilson

Well, other than Ronald Reagan (whom I strongly disliked), that matches my impressions from what I know of them. I hated Ronald Reagan, but that doesn’t mean that he wasn’t a wonderful president; perhaps I’m too close to him and his situation (close in time), so I am unable to discern anything good about his presidency. JFK and Lyndon B. Johnson are both better known for the assassination of JFK then for anything they have done. But I’m speaking as someone who was a very young child when JFK was shot, and someone who hated politics entirely until GWB got under my skin.
