Will Trump Visit The Queen?

Read Time:4 Minute, 15 Second

by Neil Bamforth

Prime Minister Theresa May invited President Trump over to Blighty for a formal state visit. Now she could have just invited him over for a chat and a cup of tea but no, she said clearly that it would be a formal state visit. As a result, old hamster head will get to meet the Queen and travel in the royal carriage waving to the crowds – albeit I’m inclined to think it may be a very small crowd, possibly one man and his dog out for a stroll or something.

Quite a lot of people are clearly unhappy with this state of affairs and, in protest at the thought of President Fart sitting alongside our dear old Queen – hopefully keeping his hands to himself – and being given all that a state visit gives in terms of credence and kudos to any head of state or, in this case, protests have occurred.

Now I could point out that, if any protests occurred at all when the leaders of China or Saudi Arabia popped along and waved their way alongside our Queen in their state visit, such protests were relatively low key. When the Chinese leader – I could Google him but I’ll just call him Ying Tong Yiddle I Po as I couldn’t be bothered – despite China’s extraordinarily appalling human rights record, apart from a few displaced Sherpa’s or Yak herders or whatever they were from Nepal, nobody actually bothered to protest.

It was the same when a senior member of the Saudi rulers popped over. Women are subjugated, the Saudi regime – which favours Waddism, or something like that whatever it is, are known to support extreme Islam. In fact, if you convert from Islam to another faith in Saudi Arabia and are found out you are dead. It is also commonly known that the Saudi’s actually finance extreme Islamists.

I don’t recall many protesters around when that motley crew came over. Perhaps a passing camel spat at them but, if so, there was no press coverage which is a surprise as you don’t get many camels wandering around London really.

There’s the rub people.

I have no problem at all with masses gathering to protest at Trump being invited over for a state visit. I don’t like him. I have no issue at all with liberals and politically left wing people waving banners against him if he does actually come over. Actually I know quite a few people with more right wing political views who may well join them.

My problem is that Trump seems to be the devil incarnate whilst the other devil incarnates – such as Chinese leaders and Saudi leaders – tend to ‘get away with it’.

I have a suggestion.

If the anti-Trump demonstrations really want to make the impact they would like – in other words get lazy fat bastards like me off our asses to march with them, then perhaps they should be just as vocal regarding Saudi Arabia and China and so on and so forth.

Clearly there are people out there who support Trump and his views and his actions as there are many who do not.

What there are out there as well are people like me who don’t like him, worry about what a future with a President Trump might mean but, frankly, couldn’t be bothered objecting or protesting. China is worse than America. Saudi Arabia is worse than America. Zimbabwe is worse than America. Lots and lots of places are worse than America even with Trump at the helm.

America, even with Trump, is comparatively a very good place to be. America, even with Trump, will remain Britain’s ally and friend.

I might not like him but I couldn’t care less if he gets to ride with our Queen waving to the bemused masses.

Trump may well be insane enough to nuke North Korea for all I know. He may be insane enough to nuke Iran. I have no idea. I expect there are some ‘people in the background’ who would prevent him doing anything like that but who knows?

In any event, Trump isn’t interested in nuking Britain – except by accident which, given America’s penchant for so called ‘friendly fire incidents’ makes it possibly a slight worry – so no, I won’t get off my fat ass and protest if he gets his state visit. I won’t because most of the people I would be marching with are obsessed with Trump.

If they weren’t they would have protested at the Chinese leader’s state visit and supported the Yak herders of Nepal.

Sorry liberals. You can’t ‘cherry pick’ your protests. Not in my world you can’t anyway.

I like consistency and, as far as anti-Trump protests go, they are only consistent in protesting against Trump and, to be honest, there are far more important things to protest against that are at least as important and, generally, far more important than Trump.

Methinks thou dost protest too much. Was that old Willy Shakespeare?

Neil, it is not about the countries they represent it the people that represent those countries. Donald Trump, at least to most people in his own country, is a liar, a cheat, misogynistic, racist, pompous, narcissistic, bullying asshole. Now the leader of China and Saudi Arabia may be as well, but they don’t announce it to the whole world on Twitter. They don’t go out their way to embarrass their country. They don’t publicly attack their own allies and openly admire the leader of their most dangerous enemy. In other words, they do know how to be politically correct in public. DOnald Trump thinks that he is God’s gift to the world and is thus hated for it because !) not everyone is convinced there is a God; and, 2) if there is a God and he did send Donald Trump to save the world he is a cruel, spiteful God.

I write from another perspective Bill. I agree with everything you say but the leader(s) of China, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait can be as diplomatic and Twitter free as they like. America with Trump is still a whole lot better than those countries. If Trump would do us all a favour and fall under a bus we’d all be happy but, until he’s gone we’re stuck with him. Protest by all means but protest against Saudi and so on just as loudly at least!

Neil protesting against China, Saudi Arabia, et al, makes no sense unless you live in those countries. We are Americans and we are protesting our own so-called leader. Secondly, your hatred of liberals is clear, but it’s not only liberals that are protesting Trump. It’s conservatives as well. Again protesting leaders of other countries is just silly.

So Saudi Arabia et al have no embassy’s in the USA then? That’s twice you’ve said I hate liberals. Nope. I hate hypocrisy. By all means protest against Trump but why no protests outside corrupt awful regimes embassies? Confining yourselves to Trump makes you as insular as him. The world is bigger than America and it’s problems more important than Trump.
