maybe more often than just often. They seem tightly linked. Psychologists call it Reaction Formation: passionate devotion to a cause or principle as a cover up. I have to sympathize with people who fall in love, but not with the lying, cheating, cover-ups and general sleaze that seem to cling to politicians and religious authorities like lice
We see this so often, a “man of the cloth” and a Republican politician blathering about “Family value” is literally “caught with his pants down”. Hypocrisy and religion seem semantically equal terms.
