Why Donald Trump Is No Mighty Mouse

Read Time:1 Minute, 51 Second

That means that Donald Trump is on the way!

Seems like a long time ago when American voters responded positively to the idea that we were going to stay out of world affairs and would  in various ways wall ourselves off from the rest of humanity while simultaneously being reassured that international terrorism would be swiftly and finally eliminated. Self-contradictory schemes seem to sell well these days. But of course Team Trump immediately demonstrated its amateur status by launching an ill considered and unsuccessful strike in Yemen with the approval of military experts Kushner and Bannon and we’ve just experienced a fireworks show in Syria — also the product of the “isolationist” Trump administration.

Like Mighty Mouse, the US will come to the aid of “innocents everywhere” says Rex Tillerson, although we won’t let them enter our country and will try hard to kill their livelihoods with tariffs.  What are we to think of that, considering the size of our suffering world population and their locations in countries of all sorts, some of which are quite hostile to the idea of our bombs and missiles and aircraft and trade policies wreaking havoc in their sovereign states? It’s nice to be righteous, but if our government is going to be suicidal, I’d like to sit it out somewhere far away.

No, fighting crimes against the innocents across the globe does most definitely not include US soil where such things would seem to be the most practical and fruitful, but that brings us back to the self-contradiction and logically dissonant theme. and the discussion of deportation of children and all our customary crimes against minorities we support by chanting jobsjobsjobs and “we can’t afford it.”

Yes indeed, it’s mystifying and confusing and frustrating and infuriating to try to understand our foreign policies as they mutate and evolve on an hourly basis, if I can use the word “policy”  without cynicism and irony or sense of despair. Is it  more accurate to admit we don’t have one, but just a collection of excuses and explanations for one jerk of the knee after another by a pathologically dishonest, uncoordinated undisciplined administration composed of hacks and incompetents and paranoids and liars?

He’s already flexing those “mighty” muscles at North Korea. He’ll do anything to keep the Russia investigation out of the news.
