Donald Trump Placed On ‘No Fly’ List
by E.A. Blair
With the President currently out of the country, the name “Donald John Trump” has been placed on the US No Fly List. Previously, reports have circulated that US politicians have, mistakenly or deliberately, appeared on the government list. The late US Senator Edward Kennedy, US Representative John Lewis and former California State Senator Tom MCclintock (currently a US Representative) have all been reported to have occupied positions on the list.
Since the No Fly List is kept hidden from public scrutiny, there is no way to independently verify the President’s listing there. However, the presence of even one passenger of Air Force One being on the list means that, theoretically, it could not be allowed to return to the United States. Currently, anyone named on the list is not allowed to board a flight originating or landing in United States territory. The situation presents severe challenges to existing legal and law enforcement practices regarding enforcement of the ban against listed persons.
It should also be noted that Saudi Arabia is not one of the predominantly Muslim countries included in President Trump’s twice-failed travel ban.
The fact that it may be the President himself who is on the list means that Vice President Pence could be required to act as President until the matter is resolved one way or another.
The No Fly List began in December of 2001, and its existence was not even acknowledged until 2004. By 2005, there were over 70,000 names on the list, and the current estimate is somewhere around 50,000. The list is maintained by the Terrorist Screening Center, part of the a division of the National Security Branch of the FBI. An FBI spokesman anonymously said that if such a situation existed, it may be a mistake or the work of hackers.
So far, no official response has come from any government agency or from anyone in the Trump administration. GOP politicians and party officials are likewise remaining silent. The FBI’s Terrorist Screening Center’s homepage is currently offline. The only public statement has come in a tweet from Fox News host Sean Hannity:
In other news of the President’s trip, in response to being presented with a gold medallion on a chain by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, reports surfaced of similar gifts to be bestowed at other stops on his itinerary (Israel, Vatican City, Belgium and Italy). One Vatican official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “With all the trinkets we’ve accumulated over the past fifteen hundred years, we ought to be able to at least find him a nice pair of earrings to go with the necklace”.
What is bad is it’s all true.
Is this true? Did he tweet about it? I read that somewhere.
I know two people put on that list and don’t know how it happened. It’s messed up.
