Donald “The Privileged” Trump

Read Time:4 Minute, 27 Second

by Bill Formby

As I sit here day after day and listen to the rhetoric surrounding the political discourse in and out of Washington, D.C. I find I am facing a conundrum. I have watched Donald Trump for more than thirty years and his antics in New York and have always thought of him as a man of privilege who actually deserved nothing.

Trump cares little about the country but only about what he can gain for himself. He has always behaved in such a way that he thought that the laws and norms of society applied only to the lower class of people but certainly not to him.

Now we find a good portion of the country who believe the same way about the Donald that he does. I hear people, and read where people are saying that he is a good man who is telling it like it is without the political correctness. What really confuses me is that at which point is he telling it like it is because he tells it one way one time and the opposite another time. I mean, how does anyone determine which of his wagons do you jump onto and which do you ignore. He tells Lester Holt that he was going to fire the FBI director regardless of the Deputy Attorney General’s recommendation because of the Russia thing, then he tweets that he was told to fire him by the Deputy Attorney General.  Pick one Mr. President because both can’t be true.

The problem right now is that the country is pretty much at a stand still except for the Republicans in the Senate who are rumored to be working on a secret health care insurance bill. That is surely providing a great deal of confidence in the country knowing that one day in the not too distant future the Senate will pop up with a health care bill that screws over the middle and lower economic class. But that is Mitch McConnell’s style. He is one of those people that puts his own ideas ahead of what is best for the country. He led the charge against President Obama and kept the government in stalemate for eight years like a petulant child who can’t get his way. He is struggling a bit with Trump because Trump keeps putting the Republican Party in a bad light with his rants and tweets. But, that is his curse to bear.

There is one thing that one can say about Donald Trump and that is that he is predictable in the fact that he is unpredictable. One never knows what junket he will get onto next. There is speculation that his goal is to undo everything that President Obama managed to accomplish because President Obama showed him up at a Washington Press Corps dinner several years ago. That’s about right. Why else would a billionaire (if he is one) take the time to run for president and actually take the job? Oh yes, I forgot, power, ego, and to make more money.

This is a point in America’s history that will go down as being its lowest point. Lower than during that of Watergate or any other scandal that has come along. I thought we had fallen to our lowest when we threw out all of our values of courage doing the right thing after 9/11/ 2001. We cowered as mice in our homes and wimped into using torture to try to get the people who were behind the tragedy. We even let President Bush stampede us into our first major preemptive strike against another nation that was based on flawed intelligence. I thought we had started to get our courage back and were beginning to behave as Americans again, but here we are again.

We have allowed a con man to become president and toss out all of the things that we have stood for for more than two centuries. We have a man who for the first time in modern history has kept his financial affairs secret from the American people by refusing to disclose his tax returns. He has not only kept his private business but is making money of the government by utilizing them as president. His company is receiving money from foreign governments while he is president. He brings his family in to help him run the government giving them top secret clearance to look at the most classified information that our country has. He has his daughter, who is not an employee of the government, sitting in on classified briefings. He pays homage to our longest held enemy and the only one capable of bring about this nation’s destruction.

The Republicans are so enamored with having control of the House, Senate, and Presidency that they will not raise a finger to put a stop to this charade. The leaders are literally giddy with their power to the point that House Majority Leader reminds me of Eddie Munster of the TV show the Munsters. I guess our best hope is that this mess will keep them occupied until the 2018 elections and the democrats can win the house back. That may protect the country long enough for them to get their act together. Well, we can hope can’t we?

We will get through this, I hope. I have no choice but to hope. If I did not I would drink more than I do and that’s never good, because it doesn’t make Trump look better.

I am thinking Ecuador or Canada. Get out before the revolution starts.

I’m not encouraged so far that the Democrats have an act at all. Or at least some idea how to prioritize the issues that really matter to the survival of liberty and democracy and the nation as a whole. The Munsters, the Addams Family, the Manson family, the House of Usher, the pied piper of Hamlin – we’ve been warned!

Glenn, I agree. You would think that we have received ample warning of what life will be like if the moderates and progressives do not get their house in order. It is really sad that we can document the rise and fall of great civilizations and then see the same things happening to us that brought them down and not have the courage or tenacity to get on a correction course before it is too late. Although I am not into religion at all I would have to say that if I were then the Anti Christ was here now. Surprisingly, it is not Trump but rather his son in law Jared Kushner.
