Michigan Republican: No Worries-God Will Make Climate Change Go Away

God is the go-to guy, at least that’s what religious ideologue Tim Walberg believes. The Michigan Republican  is convinced that only God can make climate change go away.

At a town hall meeting in Coldwater, MI, on Friday, the Michigan congressman was asked a question about his position on climate change, to which he replied, “As a Christian, I believe that there is a creator in God who is much bigger than us. And I’m confident that, if there’s a real problem, he can take care of it.”

Wait a minute, I thought Donald Trump said only he could fix it. I’m confused.

Walberg, a former pastor, thinks we need to leave all it all in God’s hands: “I believe there’s climate change. I believe there’s been climate change since the beginning of time. I believe there are cycles. Do I think man has some impact? Yeah, of course. Can man change the entire universe? No.”

Mind you, this is the same man who told the people in Flint, MI that government can’t protect them against everything – including the city’s water crisis. Forget the fact it was the government of Michigan that created the Flint water problem. Let God fix it, right?

Walberg isn’t the only ignorant Republican when it comes to climate change. In 2012 Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) once said that accepting climate science was at odds with Christianity. “My point is, God’s still up there,” he told Voice of Christian Youth America. “The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous.”

A close runner-up is Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL) who, in 2009, cited God’s post-flood promise to Noah as evidence we shouldn’t be worried. “The Earth will end only when God declares it’s time to be over,” he declared. “Man will not destroy this Earth.”

Well, that must be nice to know. But this is contrary to 99% of the world’s scientists who say climate change is man-made. So just because you think your “God” is still up there, it’ll turn out all right, you’re wrong.

As Patheos wrote:

It’s one thing if a pastor is proclaiming from the pulpit that God will fix what ails the world. It’s quite another when someone who was elected to serve in government expresses no interest in intervening to prevent a real issue that we’re already seeing the effects of.

If your deity of choice hasn’t solved climate change at this point, it’s safe to say he/she isn’t going to, and that we need to act. Or else very soon, there won’t be any humans left to worship these apathetic figures.

It was reported on Wednesday that Donald Trump plans to pull the United States out of the Paris Agreement, the 2015 deal that nearly 200 countries promised to address climate change. If he pulls us out, you’ll be happy to know that we’ll be in the company of only two countries, led by dictators: Syria and Nicaragua.

Somehow I don’t think that’s God’s plan.

As long as WE the People continue to elect idiots like Walberg and Trump to make critical decisions for US in DC we will slip backwards and erode the progress that has been made to preserve our planet for our children and grandchildren.
