Why I No Longer Think It ‘Can’t Get Much Worse’

Read Time:2 Minute, 7 Second

by Brenda Lee

January 20, 2017, I wake up and Trump is president. I say, this is going to be a disaster; that Trump is a dangerous cult leader. Trump immediately refuses to release his taxes, even though that was one of his campaign promises. I wonder how bad it will get, how much our country will suffer in the days ahead.

Almost immediately, Trump tries to impose a Muslim ban (his words). I say this can’t be happening in our country. I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

Many in his administration are found to have ties to Russia and to have lied about it. Trump fires the FBI Director who is investigating him, and I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

Without hesitation Trump rolls back numerous environmental regulations that protect our air and water from pollution. He cuts Meals on Wheels and signs executive orders that no longer protect wildlife and domestic animals alike. I ask why no one is stopping him. I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

All the while Trump insults foreign leaders and attacks celebrities. He defiles the office of President with Twitter ramblings and “covfefe” and I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

He repeatedly calls the mainstream media “fake news” and doesn’t allow them to participate in news conferences, while at the same time offering a seat to Brietbart and repeatedly commending Fox News and I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

Trump refuses to participate in the Paris agreement with the goal to reduce carbon emissions worldwide and thereby possibly save our planet from annihilation-from global warming, and I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

Trump tries to pass a health care bill, one that even he, himself, calls “mean,” which will literally kill millions, one that gives massive tax cuts to his wealthy friends. I wonder if he was born with any humanity in him. I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

The FBI confirms the Russians, at the direction of Putin, have attacked our democracy and interfered in our election and Trump still refuses to release his taxes. I learn that he has lied to American citizens literally hundreds of times in the last 5 months. I think, “It can’t get much worse.”

Trump meets with Russia–with Putin (our enemy), they shake hands and spend hours conversing past their allotted time. They discuss working on cyber security together and I think, “WTF is happening in this country!”

I no longer think, “It can’t get much worse.” It always does.

Hey, Joey, or is it Джозеф? The White House isn’t a vocational grade school or rehab center for kids with personality disorders. Did you want to give Charlie Manson a second chance too, Bernie Madoff? Jack the Ripper? Maybe you’re just joking, right?

I started to write a Science Fiction story the other day. A story where the Republicans suffer a massive defeat in the next election and Trump decides to acknowledge the Russian meddling with voting machines and voter rolls, so he nullifies the results and suspends further elections until the country can prevent further attacks. Of course that never happens and Trump continues in office until he eventually appoints Jared to take over. . .

Maybe it’s too incredible for fiction, but if you think it couldn’t happen it’s time to start reading history Joey, if that’s actually your name. BTW, how many Rubles to they pay per blog comment?

You missed the point of my post entirely, didn’t you? Sad. When will you concede this man is bleeding our country dry and ruining our reputation with the rest of the world? Maybe once he throws a tantrum and pushes the little red nuke button? Or should we continue to give him a chance once he starts WWIII? SMH.

I think if he actually started WWIII his supporters, those who survived, would think it was OK because the fake media probably made him do it. That dang CNN!

His crazy supporters would love him if he let Putin invade the Ukraine, Europe, and etc. Now, if they found out they were gay for each other they would drop him like a hot rock. Blessed Christians they are….

But still, say his supporters, “He is doing a great job.” Leading the lemmings into the sea.

“I wonder if he was born with any humanity in him.” NO. He wasn’t.

I agree with that. America elected a monster in man’s clothing.

I’m not sure it will get “much” worse before this orange menace is taken down by impeachment, or other ways.

OMG! Brenda have you been in my head? Yes. I’m scared myself, and every day I get more scared at what’s going on. I hope we see more of you over here. This is really good and reflects what, hopefully, most Americans are thinking.

I’m usually in a good mood when I first wake up, then I turn on MSNBC, and listen to Trump’s overnight/early morning shenanigans by way of Twitter and I’m no longer in a good mood. It can get much worse. Much, much worse. Good article.
