This is not a guide for saving money. It is a how-to on spending for compulsive shoppers. This is a matter of wants, not needs.

All of us independent retailers applaud your helping Jeff Bezos become even wealthier while Amazon kills downtowns faster than Wal Mart ever did. Thank You. Looks like time to close up this downtown business is getting closer even faster. After all, killing small retailers is the liberal thing to do. again, I thank you so much for your support.

Dan, I understand what you are saying. I wish that more of your downtown counterparts did. However, the truth is that many of them rarely show that they appreciate someone paying more, or having to drive downtown, find a parking place, go into the store and hope the store has the item and be brusquely push off as just another sale. I have a number of friends that own their own shops and stores and it is one of the things I bring up to them. You need a reason for people to want to do those things rather than go to Amazon. Honestly, there are a few things that I purchase locally besides perishable groceries because I know the people and we have a friendly relationship, but buying from Amazon saves me money and a lot of trouble. But seriously, people talk about a free enterprise system, well all it takes, for me anyway, is a reason to go to the trouble to go to the store. You know, like a warm greeting when I enter the store, or a friendly person who offers to help me find what I need, and a reasonable price that doesn’t have to beat either Amazon or WalMart, but is at least close. ]No Offense intended.
