It Should Worry You That Trump Cabinet Members Attend Weekly Bible Classes

Is Donald Trump’s White House even more religious than Born Again George Bush’s? According to Christian Broadcast News (CBN) his cabinet is the most evangelical cabinet in history and that should frighten every rational thinking American.

The Christian media outlet reports the majority of the cabinet officials attend a regular Bible study class  that is the first of its kind in at least 100 years. Capitol Ministries president and founder Ralph Drollinger said, when referring to Trump’s cabinet:

“These are godly individuals that God has risen to a position of prominence in our culture,”

Drollinger has long maintained that changing the hearts and minds of lawmakers to see a Christian worldview could guide them to making good policies. No doubt such policies would favor the mythology of Christ.

While he doesn’t appear to lobby on behalf of peace, which might be appropriate, and doesn’t appear to advocate policies that would fit a Jesus-like agenda, he has started a Bible study group in 40 state capitols. He teaches weekly Bible study classes for the U.S. House and Senate and now leads a group of the following Trump cabinet officials:

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Education Secretary Betsy Devos, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.

The most notable, however, is “beleaguered” Attorney General Jeff Sessions, long known as an advocate of organized religion and a staunch believer in the mythology.

“He’ll go out the same day I teach him something and I’ll see him do it on camera and I just think, ‘Wow, these guys are faithful, available and teachable and they’re at Bible study every week they’re in town,’”

Drollinger also said the group is the “best” he’s “ever taught” because the officials “are so teachable; they’re so noble; they’re so learned.”

Trump himself is in an entirely different category, as he considers himself the one and only true God. Drollinger won’t say that he’s actually attended, although he does  send him a copy of the “teachings” every week.

He also said:

“I don’t think Donald Trump has figured out that he chained himself to the Apostle Paul.”

It isn’t clear who the “Paul” is in this analogy. It’s doubtful Trump would get the reference either given his absolute confusion when it comes to popular Biblical texts.

As to the Vice President, Mike Pence claims he plans on attending in the future and as his schedule permits. He serves as the sponsor of the group.

Pence, according to Drollinger, is like biblical shining stars Joseph, Mordecai and Daniel, all of whom rose to stand beside heads of government in history. While Joseph is known for always doing the moral thing, Mordecai almost pushed his cousin into slavery, and Daniel committed crimes to avoid committing biblical sins, something Pence and the rest of these fanatics may well be inclined to do themselves.

Drollinger explained to CBN:

“Mike Pence has respect for the office. He dresses right – like it says Joseph cleaned himself up before he went to stand before the Pharaoh.Mike Pence has uncompromising biblical tenacity and he has a loving tone about him that’s not just a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And then fourthly, he brings real value to the head of the nation.”

Drollinger sees Trump as the biblical character Samson, who is known for the source of his strength coming from his hair.  That may well be fitting as Samson is an immoral person who does little more than slaughter and betray people.

Drollinger continued:

“I just praise God for them, and I praise God for Mike Pence, who I think with Donald Trump chose great people to lead our nation.”

Now if that thought doesn’t terrify you it’s hard to imagine what will.  The founding fathers, who republicans are forever fond of quoting, stressed the necessity of separating church and state.  Meeting regularly for indoctrination in the Christian way does just the opposite.

Since I am a man who believes, while never shoving my views down another’s throat, this information is quite disconcerting. That a wall should separate the church and affairs is quite clear, and rooted in our constitution. On the flip side, that same constitution provides assurance that people like me, should be able to practice – I believe this means to live my faith in action – while not burdening others about that belief or faith.

I believe Glenn R. Geist hits the proverbial nail on the head, if I may say, specifically regarding how evangelicals demand, contrary to their own system of beliefs, power or dominance over the political affairs of this nation. This is sad, if only due to the disconnect between the evangelical message pertaining to the attributes of God; all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-present and the manner in which I find ourselves living our faith.

Evangelicals these days are overly concerned about how the message applies to others, versus their own selves. Rather than getting our own affairs in order due to our failure to “work out our own salvation with fear and trembling,” we focus on those who do not live up to the “law” as proscribed in the Old Testament. This leaves the evangelical with a false sense of piety and righteousness, when there is nothing pious or right about the matter.

Until the people in the church actually begin living their respective lives in such a way that people can actually see Christ in our behavior, those outside the faith will never be persuaded to even consider the tenets of our faith. This message, however, is apparently lost on the modern-day evangelical.

Hypocrisy abounds in today’s church, making our faith appear to be nothing more than a fools errand these days. What motivation could one possibly have to even consider my faith, if I do not live out my faith, demonstrating the benefits it?

Terrifying. Love the way Drollinger seems to be pushing for impeachment, however. (Though at the thought of a President Pence, we’re back to terrifying…)

You are right! Pence should scare everyone as well, but not, I think, as much as Trump.

I think that’s a more modern gloss put on a family of religions that like most, is a bit dysfunctional. Jesus probably was another of many young fools who thought they could overthrow the latest of imperial occupiers with the help of a god who was withholding help because of impiety. Be nice and God will kill the Romans got may of his ilk killed. Any humanist message was rather incidental and it still is. For the evangelicals it’s all about power: political and economic. It’s all about enforced obedience and has far more to do with sexual perversion and obsession than the welfare of all.

They don’t study the Bible, they sell a mythology and as Jefferson said, the result is “tyranny over the mind of man” This tyranny is and has been a failure of the secular constitution and the danger increases with time.
