On July 10th, 1961, a 16 year old boy named Edgar Elton, died of an alleged heart attack during gym class at the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys in Marianna, Florida. According to news articles, Edgar was a gifted football player and leader in the school, having achieved the rank of “Pilot” in the Citizenship Evaluation Scale. Edgar was “immediately rushed” to the school physician, Dr. I. Wexler, who worked “desperately” to save Edgar’s life. Dr. C. D. Whittaker, former school physician and heart specialist was summoned, all to no avail.
