Americans have lost their way

The grass is always greener if you look at just the right spots, the places where we got things right, after the wars, after the economic collapses when, for moments in time, the government put the people first.

Republicans: Abusing Power Every Day

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the elected officials in government calling themselves Republicans today are not conservatives nor are they in the strictest sense of the word representative of the Right’s philosophy as it is historically understood.

Can’t Find My Mind-Cramps’ Lux Interior dead at 60

I’m still mourning the death of Lux Interior of the Cramps. I’ll probably never get over it. I think the man was a genius in the vein of Screaming Jay Hawkins, Arthur Brown, Alice Cooper and others but also one of those rare singer-songwriters in Rock n’ Roll who was a fierce evangelist for good, sometimes forgotten music…

Let This Be Your Theme Song Next Week at the Polls

Hum this tune by The Black Angels while you do it.

Mr. Nichols -Coldcut, featuring Saul Williams

A song that requires very close listening:

A Jimi Hendrix Twofer.

Two of Jimi’s best covers on “It’s Lulu.”

Nobody Ever Says We Were Attacked By Agnostics, White Men, New Yorkers, Republicans or Veterans on 4/19

If the glibness of this blog post’s title makes you angry, then read on. There’s actually a very important point to my sarcastic and jingoist-baiting statement above. This is a long one, but this is a big problem.

Our children: Bullies, suicide and sadness-For what it’s worth.

I’m offering up this video below of a Fort Worth City Council Meeting on Tuesday (yesterday) as a furthering of the discussion inspired by the guest post by Mistal. That post made me think a lot about how the turbulence of adolescence is made unnecessarily difficult by cowards who are compelled to pick on people just because they think they can get away with it. There’s a lot of “get over it” talk with regard to the current American focus on bullying by the media.

Happy Birthday Mr. Lennon

The late but inimitable John Lennon.

Another Year, Another Comic Book Convention.

Today marks the start of “New York Comic Con.” I’ll be in attendance this evening and all weekend, as I have been for the last five years, not as a fan but as a “professional,” a very kind acknowledgement by the convention’s founder, Lance Fensterman…

Pornography

No one ever has to explain their interest in pornography, although many of us try to make excuses for it. I have always loved pornography, in magazines and in film. It feels nasty, dangerous, exciting and is one of the few things left on Earth that will get you in trouble with just about anybody and everybody in some way.

3 Songs to Sing Along to After the Apocalypse…

These are pieces of music I grew up with that I sometimes cite as my favorite pieces of Science Fiction. The trouble is, I’m not a kid anymore and in many ways the baleful cautious cynnicism of these singers and songwriters tragically reflects today’s reality in ways they never intended.

Where Eagles Dare -The Misfits

This is a song by New Jersey’s own The Misfits. A great band with a very ‘live’ (single track recordings in studio only) raw and retro sound (at the time in 1977).

Last Minutes with ODEN

WARNING: I had to close my door at the office because I couldn’t hold back the tears.
