Discussions suggest as this always bring me back to Pastor Martin Niemöller’s famous phrase:

“First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out –
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me — and there was no one left to speak for me.”

The things that allows evil triumph is for good (people) to do nothing when doesn’t directly concern them.

Mike 2, I liked what you wrote and I agree with most all of it. I have tried to search my ancestors to find out whether our family came from Spain or if we are Mexican. I really couldn’t prove it one way or another. I honestly don’t care because despite what some people feel, I am not prejudice. I am truly sorry if I offended you. I RESPECT everyone. I don’t know where the respect thing got so prevelant. I just do not like Barry. He is EVIL. Of course there are a lot of evil people in government but he, in my mind, is the worst. I truly feel he is out to destroy the country. The reason I call him Half-Breed(and of course most of us are) is, he is half white and like most people who are in the same position chose the black half to be known as. WHY do you think that is? One of my best friends is from Nigeria. He means as much to me and maybe more than all of my friends. We have kept in touch over the years and when I see him we really enjoy eachothers company. His son and daughters are friends of my seven children. He is a great MAN. Again, I apologize for offending you and appreciate your comments back to me. This is why AMERICA is so great. Bob- we “are” listening to the folks on the Right, which is why the Pelosi congress couldn’t get a DAMN thing done when they had the reigns of power, and why we can’t get ahead right now.

the problem with the modern GOP is it is totally CORPORATIST, and couldn’t give a rats “tooter” about “joe six pack/ main street”- The avg american is merely a foot soldier in terms of voting, and is then forgotten. The right keeps whipping up things like religion( forgot the famous line in our “freedom document” about our political powers “making no laws in respect to a national religion”, yet the religious conservatives are HELL BENT on making everyone protestant, PRO life, and anti semitic( including Jews and arabs) or nothing at all.

They play to the basest attitudes of race and religion to scare the avg. american, while at the same time picking the pockets of our national wealth for their own corporate WELFARE and greed.( it was rightwing coproratists who pushed for inclusion of corporations in the 14th amendment, and destroyed Glass Stengall Act, which led to the financial melt down we have endured since early 2007)

time to STOP listening to the John Boehners – who sit back and complain or bad mouth the president, but in 2 yrs haven’t brought one SINGLE piece of legislation that has HELPED the avg American( deny the payroll tax for the working class, but demand MORE tax cuts for the rich???) I am a liberal republican, but you Sir, are no “flaming liberal”……
