RECONCILIATION? YEAH…THIS TIME THEY’LL LISTEN!?

Read Time:2 Minute, 37 Second

In a display oddly similar to the right leaning bloggers, who for some reason all seem to cover the same topic day in and day out, my Brothers and Sisters on the left are almost en masse touting reconciliation to get health insurance reform through Congress.

I, of course, join them in this worthy goal but I am also cynical about it happening. I’ve just seen too much pandering to the right to think it will all of a sudden stop. Worst of all, there is no honor at all left in politics.

Years ago when I first got involved, after all was said and done, a person’s word was his bond. When a deal was made, both sides lived up to it even if it turned out to be bad. That doesn’t happen anymore on any level. No favor will ever be repaid. Democrats want President Obama to come campaign with them but when it comes time to ask for a tax increase or cut something, they’re gone. Of course they will apologize and say I’ll be with you next time. But that’s a lie as well. President Obama knew this going in and said so in his stump speeches, maybe not the same wording, but for sure, his words said the same thing.

Only God and the ghost of Ted Kennedy know how many rules there are in the Senate . Even if reconciliation did just take 51 votes..get real! Talk is cheap! Sure Al Franken will vote for the people. But how many else? There’s an email going around asking us to sign a letter telling our senator’s to support health insurance reform through reconciliation. This should be a no brainer for any real Democratic Senator. My senator, Dick Durbin, President Obama’s fellow senator from Illinois, proud Liberal, hasn’t even signed on to using reconciliation yet. And we need the Nelsons, Lincolns and LIEbermans to sign onto to a bill through reconcliation? Shit. And don’t forget the “Gang of Fourteen” that prevented the republicans from using the “nuclear option.”

President Obama has put his heath care reform plans online for all to see in an effort to get republicans to offer up ideas of their own. So fa it hasn’t worked. The cowardly, obstructionist, protect fat cat corporations at all possible republicans offer nothing.

And the other enemy that I’m getting to is Democrats that talk big, but when the time comes to put up and do what’s right for working Americans, run and hide. They tell us and the President that they will be with us next time.

At last count, twenty senators signed the pledge to pass health insurance reform through reconciliation. That makes 36 Democrats that are turning their backs on my Party and America. And sadly, even if We The People turn our backs on them as they are turning theirs on us, their pile of donations will be larger than ever thanks to the insurance companies and their lobbyists gratitude.

Ironic. You can trust an insurance company lobbyist to return a favor and keep his word, but we can’t even trust 36 U.S. Senators.

Mike – I don’t know that it is – msnbc had a headline to that effect, but you know they can be a bunch of screaming mimi’s sometimes.

Bee I cannot believe the bill is dead. It is the flagship of the democratic party. If if sinks so does the party.

4D, we’re a bunch of thick-headed dreamers, that’s why we bother with elections. I’d leave a smiley, but I’m not really kidding.

Well, msnbc.com had a headline a bit ago, they think the bill is DOA anyway. But then, they do tend toward hysterics occasionally.

Ahhhh!!! Thank you Hill. I will remember that for future posties.

Now my profuse apologies for being a little thick.

I have no idea what a ‘corporation’ is in America….

AHHH! The wifey just came in and explained it to me.

In my youth in the North of England The Corporation was related to the local town council who organised rubbish collection – hence my bewilderment.

Carol advises ‘Corporations’ are now ‘big business’ and such like. Multi- National Companies and things of that ilk.

I see.

er…why do you bother with elections then?…;-)

Long live democracy eh?

oh dear….

Reconciliation, my ass.

Walk the walk, mofo’s. Otherwise, it’s just more blah-blah-blah.

Until we get true Medicare For ALL, so-called “health care reform” is nothing but a $$$$$ bonanza for the Insurance Mafia.

And fourdinners, to answer your question, THE CORPORATIONS RUN THE USA.

🙁

I confess to being slightly confused.

Who exactly is running the USA?

Obama get’s elected but another lot who aren’t on his side stop him doing anything? Distinctly odd.

Mind you. It would be rather nice if someone could stop our idiot Brown from doing anything.

As we get to the end games of the HCR debate, TAO makes a good point, why at this time do we get significant and inflammatory rate increases? Are they making us mad, so we push our elected officials to vote for reform? Or, are they just taunting us and the Obama Administration? Are they saying: “Look we can do anything we want” because they know they have enough politicians in their back pocket to block anything.

Truth, I share your concerns about the numbers of Democrats that may side with the Republicans, it is a likely event, very soon we should know who our friends are. I’m glad we are coming to the end of this, it has been going on for too long. I look forward to your future posts on this subject.

Oh folks, all of the sudden when it looks like healthcare is DOA we start getting stories about 39% rate increases in California and 14% rate increases for medicare supplements…

Hmmm…

The timing is all but obvious…

Health insurers want healthcare reform! What they want is 30 million new customers that are forced by law to buy into their policies….

What you have to figure out is what part of Obama’s plan they don’t want…

Once we can find that then we can figure out who is on the side of the people and who isn’t. The reality is that the Republicans DO NOT want the democrats to take credit for a healthcare bill….

A REAL healthcare reform bill will give the Democrats a majority for decades to come….

That is where the democrats were stupid and too focussed on campaign funds and not on the long term

Can’t say I disagree as much as I’d really like to. I’d like to say, no they’ll get it done THIS time but I’m not holding my breath.
BTW – Truth, I think you have found your place; you fit well here. Good luck to all of you with this endeavor and, of course I’ll be a daily visitor!

I was with you all the way on being patient and giving Obama and the Democrats time. Each time they said “Hope and change.” “Progress. Meaningful reform.” It’s been a lie.

Lazer: I’ve watched devolve into what it is now also. It’s not ablout serving the people. It’s about serving the corporate interests. And it’s that way at all levels of govenment. It sucks.

Truth, years ago I had an uncle who was a city councilman. From that day forward I have never trusted a politician since. They can justify anything to themselves.

Truth I am with you on this one. I have become rather cynical over the last several months, something which would surprise fellow bloggers such as Reality Zone. I have long given the president and democratic legislators the benefit of the doubt, but not this time. I am tired of being disappointed. I am just tired of the political machine period….Good post man.
