BOYCOTT AZ’s SB 1070 – The JUAN CROW LAW

Read Time:3 Minute, 40 Second

BOYCOTT ARIZONA and all of it’s products. There is no other position.

Today Meghan McCain published her views on SB 1070: unjust. She stirs with a big stick… her father is hopelessly flip flopping past a straight answer…he’s up for re-election and facing some horrible numbers. Spanish newspaper Impre.com slammed the law and called for a statewide boycott. The fact is, most civil rights enthusiasts are calling for the same boycott. The city of San Francisco is calling for a boycott. Democratic Representative Raul Grijalva of AZ claims it is unjust, racist and is calling for a smack down on the power structure (read GOP) that created it. Kind of stupid of the Repugs to do this as a hot gubernatorial race gets underway~! The Dems are shooting up in points and polls.

AZ’s Republican politico’s are being cast as everything nasty from Nazi to Jim Crow. It’s being touted as a “police state”. {The true culprit here, sadly, is the United States Congress, not Arizona. Because we have refused to take action, States are being pressured on all sides to act. States have haphazardly passed a patchwork of laws in an attempt to deal with the pressing issue of immigration. These local laws have unintended consequences which often lead to disastrous results, as we will surely see in Arizona.

The Arizona law is a symptom of our broken immigration system, and only Congress can truly solve the crisis. Immigration is fundamentally a Federal issue, and yet we here in Congress continue to fail in meeting our responsibility that’s allocated to this body and the Federal Government. Until we can pass comprehensive immigration reform, these misguided local laws will continue to be passed in vain attempts to address the issue at a local level, and we will continue to suffer from the unintended consequences and abuses that they foster.

Yes, Arizona will suffer because of this law. How can we expect to recover from our recession if we chase away our workers, shrink our tax base, and scare honest, hardworking American families?

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush criticized Arizona’s new immigration law on Tuesday, saying that it could lead to “unintended consequences,” according to Politico.} read it all

We can only hope those unintended consequences reveal the racist agenda in financial support of this kind of politicing! Dave Weigel of the Washington Post advises that Jeb Bush is a key player on “a nationwide strategy call with key business and Evangelical leaders (you know them… the ‘hang the gay’s in Uganda’ crowd?) to share convictions around the need for immigration reform this year” … meeting on Thursday.

The DOJ needs to file an injunction against this heinous law. Personal constitutional rights are about to be trampled to death. There can be no way that US Congress can ignore Immigration Reform… along with the Financial Reform. It’s jumpin’ now~! Ain’t it? There is too much death and crime on the AZ boarder, that much is plain. This IS NOT the way to address it. Perhaps the government will be forced to address the sanity in decriminalizing pot. It would throw a hellva monkey wrench into the drug cartel violence and crime. It’s in epic proportions in Mexico and has spilled into AZ for years now.

Today I made a very difficult and heartfelt personal choice. One of my important suppliers’ is in AZ. I made a phone call I’ve not thought I would make in 17 years of doing business with him… to tell him I would not be purchasing white sage and sweetgrass from him until AZ’s SB 1070 is repealed. I’ll go to California for it where my dollars, small as they might seem, are badly needed in a state with a crippled economy. As a member of a ‘conscious business community’ it was a sad, tearful day for me. My supplier does not appreciate my politics or stance on this and thinks ‘I’ll come around to my senses’ when my standards for herbs are not met in California. Hope he doesn’t stick his finger up his ass and hold his breath waiting for that one. GAD! You think you know people!

This is an unjust law leveled at Latino Americans. Fuck the Republicans who hide behind other related issues to demonstrate their racism and try to make political capital on good, honest, American citizens and their relatives. BOYCOTT ARIZONA. PLEASE.

All the Latino community has to do is be patient, for in 40 or 50 years when they’re in the majority, they can pass a law requiring all crackers to prove they’re from there.

The 4th Ammendment of our constitution
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Note that there must be probable cause and there must be by oath or affirmation.

My big problem is the profiling that is going to happen, lots of brown skinned born the USA Americans, are going to asked to prove it. If I went to Arizona, I’m a fair haired, blue eyed, not born in the USA American, they wouldn’t bother me.

It’s a yucky situation, mostly because it is a law that was passed that is pitting one group of human beings against another over notions and ideas. When has that ever had a happy ending?

It’s unconstitutional. The 4th Amendment prohibition against unlawful search and seizure strikes the Arizona law dead.

Well, I’ve certainly put a great deal of thought and emotion into this … and if anyone here thinks this is just a matter of border troubles… that is not my understanding of this situation at all. There is a great deal more going on here…. a great deal.
And the point is not to punish individuals.
The point is to initiate a difference that CHANGES THIS LAW~! It requires right thought and right action.
Demonstrating your ethics …

PS: I’m sure you know that McConnell has said he doubts that an immigration law will come up because they have too much to do. Yeah – like say “No” to everything.

No kidding. No pun intended. Definition of a filibuster: Say no to a debate wherein your premise would be No. GON. Grand Old No. Their favorite spirit: Old No.

When will that party quit being useless and dangerous?

I’m not a PetsMart fan becuase of their high prices but I do agree with Mike. If such a boycott were successful, we’d only be hurting the employees. I think writing letters and protesting is the way to go. “Juan Crow.” That’s a good one.

Gwen,
Much, MUCH respect for putting principle before business, in particular because you are a small business owner who needs every buck. Much respect!

If only life was so simple – and, please…I’m not being intentionally patronising or anything…maybe over there but look abroad a bit….same shit different countries different perspectives.

I really wish it was so easy to see.

America is America and it is multi racial / cultural by its very nature so, racialism there is, frankly, bizarre.

It isn’t bizarre here nor nearly so clear cut.

In America I would be considered a racialist I suspect – despite having muslims / hindus / sikhs / poles / lithuanians / african carribeans et al amongst my friends – valued friends at that.

Never the less I support ‘right wing’ views to ‘get them gone’ under certain circumstances.

Not on any racial grounds – and not my friends either as they are all, without exception, ‘fitting in’.

Some do some don’t.

Both / all political spectrums need to realise and publically state that ‘when in Rome’ etc.

If you can’t do ‘when in Rome’ don’t even bother to arrive. Reason being if you come here, for example, and don’t do a ‘when in Rome’ job you’re going to be ‘invasive’ to me and this bit of the world is where I live.

By all means ‘do your thing’ inside your home but outside, fit in with me as I would with you in your country of origin. (If it happened to be Pakistan I’d probably be stoned or beheaded if I didn’t compromise ‘my ways’)

Alternatively I’m completely missing the point…no change there then..;-)

It really is another world sometimes eh?

I can do without PetsMart. But PF Chang’s also has its HQ there. The local PeiWei (parent co is PF Changs) employs a TON of Latino and South American people. A dilemma!

While I am not pleased that Arizona has taken this drastic step, I can understand their desperation. This is not just a case of racial profiling or discrimination, it is a case of border control, or lack thereof. The ranchers and residents have thousands of illegals running across their land daily. These people are not all just deprived poor folk wanting to find a better life in the United States, although this is the romantic view. Some of them are criminals seeking to find a MUCH better life in the United States by stealing what we have. I have a friend in law enforcement who tells me that unless you live there you have no idea of the enormity of this problem. He says the illegal border crossings, drug wars, gang wars, and etc. are all connected to Arizona’s overwhelming population of illegal immigrants, including lots and lots of very bad people.

Boycotting Arizona’s businesses will only hurt those who work for those businesses. In order to apply enough pressure on the legislature to change the law thousands and thousands of Americans would have to put out of work. I won’t be a part of that. I have written a letter to PetSmart and will work behind the scenes but I am not going to boycott the businesses.

It was a good post Gwen and I respect the courage of your convictions. Thanks.

Jess, New Mx does have fine quality sages … mostly all the beautiful green gold braids of sweetgrass come out of Canada to begin with… but California needs our money now… and perhaps this is a dharma. I personally love Tucson… and the Gem Show. I make a bundle… but I couldn’t afford it this year and if things don’t change… I won’t go til the law is repealed. California again. I adore Canyon De Chelly… its’ personally sacred to me… and I’ve just said so long to GrandMother Spider until this changes… I can leave Sedona… I just did actually. The painted desert, the petrified forest? All so stunning. And the folks have always been just great! Especially my Dine friends. But Jess…
If we don’t take an action… well, I’d feel like a hellva hypocrite.
I agree with your sentiments… completely.

An online friend just moved to Tucson recently and I know she feels the same way about this law as we all do. I totally hear you about taking action. I know Gavin Newsom just put the order out that the city( San Francisco) won’t be sending anyone to AZ on business. Cal Pers has been asked to look into taking their money, if any, in the state out of there. I’m just afraid that this is only the training ground for other things.
Remember the poem first they came for and I said nothing….I don’t know who said it but I am a firm believer that we are our brother and sister’s keeper. The ‘rental units drummed it into my head from the second I came in their lives, that if you don’t stand for something you will fall for anything.

Funny how Jeb and people like Lou Dobbs, when affected personally about something, will fight the fight isn’t it? Goddard has already gained several points in the last few days because of this draconian law. You would think they would have learned from other states, CA, about trying to discriminate Prop 187 lost the republicans the Hispanic vote to this day. In 2015, AZ will not have the white majority it has today. Kids born to Hispanics are already out pacing the white born kids there.
Hubby and I were talking to one of his old girlfriends that lives in Arizona and she told us she painted her windshield with the same wording as the car you have pictured up front. Told us there are going to be nationwide protests this weekend. If you are so inclined please find one in your area and join it. The immigration lawyers have already canceled the convention they were going to have this year.

I go to Petsmart at least once a week for the kitties and I found out they have the HQ in AZ. I’ll go instead to the pet store that is further for me to drive to but I’ll know my money is being spent here locally. You should send your money to NM too Gwen. I’m guessing they would have the same quality that AZ has, since they are so close to one another.
This law is going to cost little rural towns in AZ a lot of money. The person that calls to complain that they are not rounding enough of the brown folk or the brown folk being arrested when they are citizens. This is going to end badly for the GoOpsters I am glad to say. You cannot have crazy without (R-AZ)
