Neglected by the News: Nashville’s Nightmare (Video)

Read Time:17 Second

The massive flooding that all but swallowed Nashville was basically ignored by the mainstream media; replaced by the oil spill, the busted bankers, and anything said by Sarah Palin, the Tea Party, or Arizona politicians. Watch this heartbreaking video and ask yourself why:

“I wish I was in Nashville, guitar on my back
Maybe someday I will ride in the back of a big Cadillac”….preferably one that doesn’t sink?

I don’t wish to sound like a hard ass but I don’t think exagerating in a time of crisis is too cool. When I worked at the paper during Columbine, cool, calm and collected – and accuracy – were stressed by the powers that be.

I grew up in Nashville and it is a beautiful and historic town, even after some ding-a-ling mayor had a bunch of blocks of historic buildings around the court house destroyed in the name of urban removal.

Wonder how many people know that Nashville used to be known as the Athens of the South.

Great visuals, great music and a big thanks to Lisa. But, but, but most of the text is simply untrue or the entire story wasn’t told.

While the oil spill (covering 8+ states with deaths of humans and marine life and basically destroying the ecosystem for decades to come) did indeed attract the bulk of the media coverage over last weekend, media coverage of our flood has been way, way over 15 minutes. All one has to do is google “nashville flood.” I have received emails from friends all over the country who saw it on TV or read about it in the papers – ABC, MSNBC, CBS, LA Times, Washington Post, to name just a few.

The latest cost estimate is $1 billion not several. Sadly 28 people died, 10 in Nashville. I don’t know of one death attributed to sitting in cars. There were a few who got out of their cars tried to walk to safety. They were swept under by the current.

The mayor, media and rescue teams (fire, police, etc.) begged people to stay off the streets. Did they listen? No, they had to get out and gawk. True, many of those cars in the video got slammed while trying to get home. But that idiot mother walking her daughter through the high water just for fun was inviting disaster. Water may look calm on the surface but underneath the current can be deadly.

The video does a tremendous job of showing how devasting the flood was but a little more accuracy and less exageration would have made it first class.

I don’t know what MSM you have been watching but CNN has been all over the the flooding situation in Tennessee. In fact Wednesday night they interviewed a guy who is a friend of a friend of mine in Clarksville, TN. It is indeed a bad situation. One can only hope there are no more deaths when the Cumberland river subsides.

Thanks for posting this. Our county here in Tennessee also was affected by the floods. Our schools are still closed, roads are still in need of repair, homes being cleaned up after the flood waters, and lives being put back together!!!
