Scientist – We Are Not Smart Enough To Understand Universe

Read Time:1 Minute, 25 Second

The Edmonton Sun is reporting that a top British scientist says we may never know all the secrets of the universe because, quite simply, we’re just not smart enough.

“Just as Einstein’s ideas would baffle a chimpanzee,” said President of the Royal Society Lord Martin Rees, gaining a full understanding of how the universe works might not be possible “simply because they’re beyond human brains.”

“Just as a fish may be barely aware of he medium in which it lives and swims, so the microstructure of empty space could be far too complex for unaided human brains.”

Lord Rees made the comments to the Sunday Times in London in response to the fact that scientists have been yet unable to create a unifying theory to describe how the universe works.

He suggests that the idea of multiple parallel universes, human consciousness and the very idea of reality may be simply beyond our understanding.

It’s as if a fish is swimming in one pond, completely unaware that thousands of other ponds exist mere meters away from it. Understanding that those ponds even exist, let alone understanding their connection to the original pond, is understandably beyond the comprehension of a single fish.

Similarly, that parallel universes could exist in up to 11 dimensions – while humanity is restricted to three spatial dimensions and time – is beyond human understanding.

“In theory, there could be another entire universe less than a millimeter away from us, but we are oblivious to it because that millimeter is measured in a fourth spatial dimension and we are imprisoned in just three,” he said in the interview.

Scientists using quantum physics have already shown (in theory) that you can be in two places simultaneously!

That ‘twin quanta’ phenom, eh? LOL

Quantum Mechanics has it that a particle can be in ALL positional states until collapse of the quantum state. Perhaps reality isn’t reality until consciousness occurs?

That’s the point: our mind is unable to understand tunnel effect, for instance, or quantum states BEFORE measures. Since our world does not work the quantum way, ou brain is not made to understand this phenomena. So quantum scientists just do the maths and LEARN to think as quantum mechanics makes them think, instead of just think that way.

Concerning the question of understanding the universe, it occurs to me that I do, in fact, possess the very understanding that you all seek. However, I cannot reveal the mystery to you all as you would not understand.

I think it all points to the fact that we need to humble ourselves intellectually and keep a very open mind without going all hunter-gatherer, superstitious in our outlook.

SuperString Symmetry (the 11 dimensions mentioned) and MultiVerse explanations in the Quantum world can sound so….theoretical and abstract.

The more experimentation done at the Quantum level, the more it becomes a WTF. Take the weirdest thing that can be thought of and it is still not strange enough.

Challenges to the very core what is reality and what is now.

Personally I think the Big Bang Theory leaves a lot to be desired…I am of the opinion that it was a controlled event.

I’m not even smart enough to understand soccer.

Of course there are 11 dimensions. That’s where Cthulhu lives!

Very interesting.

That’s the trouble with mechanical / Newtonian science… too limiting!

There are several T.O.E.’s out there… interesting stuff, too!
