Ending the war-Afghan women terrified…

Read Time:47 Second

It appears increasingly likely that the US exit strategy from Afghanistan will involve some form of reconciliation with the Taliban. But that’s a terrifying thing for many Afghan women, Time reports this week, plastering on its cover the grisly image of an 18-year-old woman who had her nose and ears cut off by her husband on the orders of a Taliban judge. Her crime? Running away from an abusive husband.

“They are the people that did this to me,” she says. “How can we reconcile with them?” But Hamid Karzai seems ready to do just that. In a recent talk with Tom Malinowski of Human Rights Watch, Karzai wondered aloud if he could afford to worry about human rights in the face of the death and destruction brought by the war. “He essentially asked me,” Malinowski recalls, “What is more important, protecting the right of a girl to go to school, or saving her life?”

Time’s lack of credibility again. So the latest reason is similar to one of the reasons Laura Bush said we invaded Iraq. For women’s rights.

When are people going to stop believing every stupid piece of shit the MSM puts out? Like Jess says, we exhibit concern over womens issues when it serves our geopolitical purposes.

If we were so fucking concerned with Afghani womens rights, why did we fund the religious whackos who rose up against the Taraki regime for educating women and putting them in the workforce?

What a pitiful piece of war propaganda. Like our policy is to give a damn about women anywhere, even here.

In the interest of peace and brotherhood, I would be happy to take in sixty virgins. 😉

While this is a terrible situation for these girls having this done to them, where was Time when it was happening in Darfur and Somalia and any other place where we have NOT decided to go in and intevene militarily? This is IMO, propaganda plain and simple because our congresscritters are cowards and don’t want to piss off the MIC. This is a new angle they are trying to distract us, so we don’t think how much is being spent, how long we have been there and so on. Oooh look, bright shiny thing over there.

This has been happening in that region, long before we were even a country and it will keep happening because of religious laws and misogyny at its finest. People there have to rise up and say enough already. It isn’t helping we have installed Karzai and he is as corrupt as all get out. I want our servicemembers home and I want them home NOW.

Teeluck, you’re 100% right. We could do everything financially and socially possible but it would never be enough for the fanatical element over there (or anywhere).

Mother Hen, only if in exchange, Afghanistan has to take a bunch of lunatic crackers.

I say we pull out, simultaneously offering protection and immunity to any and all women and their children age 10 and under (18 and under for girl children).

Yes, that is a problem, but one that we cannot fix, religion is the root cause and it is a problem only the people can fix by dropping religion, which they would not do.
