Cats in the Cradle – Harry Chapin

Read Time:21 Second

This song was popular when I was a young guy driving a truck before I had kids. The words always stayed with me and I resolved not to be like the character in the song. So maybe the song had something to do with making me a good parent.

Thanks Harry. I raise my hand in greeting to you up in the sky. Thank you man.

Chapin was a great story teller……Remember “Taxi”? – “She gave me 20 dollars for a $2.50 fare. She said, ‘Harry, keep the change’. Well, another man might have been angry and another man might have been hurt. But another man never would have let her go. I stashed the bill in my shirt.”

I’d like to think that the effort we put in, you and Krell and myself and others, the effort will pay off and our children will treasure us as we treasure them.

Even when I was a child and heard this song it made me wistful. I felt sorry for my grandparents, who, despite living in the same town as my uncle and cousins, never got a visit from them. Even through they loved on the coast, the grandkids they saw most often were us.
