Wanna lose some pounds? Drink water!
I would like to lose about 20 pounds, but as we all know it isn’t easy. I mean between snickers, fast food and scotch it can really be tough. So, looking for a quick fix, I came across this little piece in Newser. Is there hope for me:
It’s not the flashiest of diet drinks, but two glasses of water before meals seems to do the trick, a new study suggests. Researchers from Virginia Tech instructed a group of dieters to drink two glasses to start each meal. At the end of a 12-week-period, they each lost an average of 15.5 pounds, while those in a control group who were given no such instructions lost 11, Time reports.
Anecdotal evidence abounds that water can help one lose weight by curbing the appetite or the urge to reach for sugary drinks, but the VT study is the first to demonstrate a measurable benefit. In fact, scientific studies about the health benefits of water are surprisingly scant, notes Time. Even the much-publicized claim that a healthy person needs eight glasses a day has no scientific evidence to support it.

Recently I was told among other things I had a stiff Heart. At first I was glad at least something of mine was stiff. Anyway I have to lose weight, 220lbs to start and the goal is 180. So far I lost 20. This in about 6 weeks. It is very hard to lose because I can’t exercise. No not even walking. So water is my life. Funny I never really drank water unless scotch was in it.
So yes I say water is the way to go. If I can get down to 180, I think I’ll feel better.
Are you able to do really low impact things, like sitting in a chair maybe holding a couple food cans like weights? Maybe sitting in that same chair and doing a little leg lifting, not too far off the ground though, few inches. Maybe while you are in the shower/bath, put your arms on the shower wall and do something almost like a vertical push up, but against the wall? The reason I ask, hubby’s granny just had a stroke a while back and she is doing some little things like that, for therapy and to keep her muscles moving, since she can’t walk as much as she used to.
There seems to be a consensus on the men of this blog- all liking Scotch. A foul drink.
Stiff heart? Obviously not the same as a “hard” heart, as you are one nice guy!
I find when I sip in between some bites of food, I eat a little less. doesn’t work the same for everyone. If you don’t like just plain old regular tap water, stick some lemon/lime in it, you are getting a flavored drink. Don’t go with those fancy little, packaged flavor your drink with this things. Those things have so many chemicals in them it’s defeating the whole being healthy process. Too much water can also be a bad thing. There have been people that have died from an increased intake of water. All things in moderation.
20 lbs, isn’t a lot to lose, cut out the cheetos in your mom’s basement Mike, that should help you ;). I can tell you this, if your diet consists of Scotch and Snickers, along with fast food, it’s not a good one. Instead of that one Snickers bar, eat an apple. Instead of the grease and nasty that are fast food, get a salad with some chicken, a couple times from the fast food place. Most of them have pre packaged salads now. Bags of carrots, broccoli, cauliflower for snacking on, instead of the Snickers.
Beer is mostly water right? So therefore a couple of glasses beer should have the same effect. I’m hoping here.
No, NO. Beer has the exact opposite effect, unless you do some moving around. In my house, I call that exercise ;). Look into my eyes, you are getting sleepy, very sleepy, change out one, just one bottle, can or glass of beer a week with the same amount of water, two even. The belly gets it first with the beer.
