3 Songs to Sing Along to After the Apocalypse…
These are pieces of music I grew up with that I sometimes cite as my favorite pieces of Science Fiction. The trouble is, I’m not a kid anymore and in many ways the baleful cautious cynicism of these singers and songwriters tragically reflects today’s reality in ways they never intended. From the attacks on the Constitution and war-addled society implied in Life During Wartime, to Billy Joel’s imagining of an engineered sinking of Manhattan, to Jello Biaffra’s account of a day in the life of an oil spill cleanup man in Marin California, we’ve seen too many parts of these musical narratives come true.
Not all of it has come to pass… and that’s what’s scary about listening to these songs again, but maybe that’s what’s hopeful too.

All great songs man, but especially the Talking Heads.
I have to say so. I mean a song with accordion as the rhythm instrument? WTF?
But that Dead Kennedys song is the only beautiful melody they ever wrote… every single line of it true today.
Ain’t David Byrne a wonder? I mean, really, ain’t he? I love that quirky S.O.B.’s music.
Yeah, agreed. A fucking genius to be sure. He still rides around manhattan on a bicycle without a helmet though (saw him just last week) he’s gonna get himself killed. He wears all white these days for some reason…
They are already doing this. Killing the poor with bad healthcare, cutting social safety nets and education. No need to wait for the Apocalypse and I gave you all the lyrics.

But if destruction comes make sure you have said what you need to say, to all who are important to you..
I guess I can’t argue with that…
