Where Eagles Dare -The Misfits

Read Time:1 Minute, 15 Second

This is a song by New Jersey’s own The Misfits. A great band with a very ‘live’ (single track recordings in studio only) raw and retro sound (at the time in 1977). They were alternately praised and criticized for obstinately refusing to ever record in stereo, and were also known for producing, pressing and distributing their own records along with other bands of the period like Minor Threat. Singer-songwriter Glenn Danzig has been credited along with others like Mink Deville for the Rockabilly revival in pop music in the late 1970s outside of mainstream music, although The Misfits are often identified exclusively with the hardcore bands of the era like Black Flag, and punk bands like Detroit’s FEAR; it’s largely agreed they were probably closer to The Ramones in style and execution.

The video is a black-and-white ‘animatic’ (a slide show styled animation with limited movement often used as a pitching tool or rough draft) I created based upon my comic book ‘Marley Davidson: Bronx Exorcist.’ It is an extremely violent action-adventure piece, so turn away if blood and gore put you off, but give it a listen because it’s scored  by a liberating, beautiful song about breaking free that always turns my day around no matter how many times I hear it over the years.

After all, how can you dislike a song that has a chorus like “I ain’t no goddamn son of a bitch?”
