Hyper-homophobic Westboro Church protestors get tires slashed

Read Time:1 Minute, 19 Second

One thing all Americans can agree upon is that we hate the hyper-homophobic members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas. Westboro church protestors showed up with their “God Hates Fags,” and “God Hates the USA” signs at the wrong soldier’s funeral in McAlester, Oklahoma yesterday. The Tulsa World reports:

Shortly after finishing their protest at the funeral of Army Sgt. Jason James McCluskey of McAlester, a half-dozen protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., headed to their minivan, only to discover that its front and rear passenger-side tires had been slashed.

To make matters worse, as their minivan slowly hobbled away on two flat tires, with a McAlester police car following behind, the protesters were unable to find anyone in town who would repair their vehicle, according to police.

The minivan finally pulled over several blocks away in a shopping center parking lot, where AAA was called. A flatbed service truck arrived and loaded up the minivan. Assistant Police Chief Darrell Miller said the minivan was taken to Walmart for repairs.

Even before the protesters discovered their damaged tires, they faced off with a massive crowd of jeering and taunting counterprotesters at Third Street and Washington Avenue, two blocks from the First Baptist Church, where the soldier’s funeral was held.

Miller estimated that crowd to number nearly 1,000 people, and they not only drowned out the Westboro protesters with jeers, but with raucous chants of “USA, USA.”

A few motorcyclists interspersed among the crowd also revved up their engines to muffle the protests.

Westboro, meet Karma.

It’s been a while since I was in journalism school (back before it was about marketing the news) but don’t communities still define “obscenity”? Could these communities define it somehow to include protests at funerals?

So now, out of spite, they show up regularly in McAlester to protest any funeral they can find..just to “teach them a lesson”.

This now costs the local and state law enforcement money they don’t have to actually “protect” the nutters from Westboro. How friggin wrong and ironic is that?

Hopefully their god laughs in their friggin faces when they meet their maker. I hope they join the ranks of The Big Dick Cheney, Karl Rove and others in the lowest level of Dante’s Inferno for eternity.

During the late 70’s, early 80’s Dr. Raymond Moody cataloged & introduced the phenomenon of the NDE (near death experience). When he had finished, he had spoken to 1000’s of people globally. The ‘experience’ was shockingly similar in every recount of it in each individual. One immediate sensation/experience was the ‘seeing your life pass before your eyes’. The event was not as you might think… you re-experience the your life through the eyes of or with the total consciousness of the person involved in event / memory IE – I cross over and experience the memory of loosing my temper with say, an ezine editor / publisher. It’s not my feelings and responses I will experience… I will experience the feelings and responses of that ezine editor / publisher. The hurt or the anger, the need to mend or the need to destroy. You see? So >>>>>
when I observe those like these Westboro people, if I’m acting like an evolved individual, I will take halt and remember the fact that they will experience the devestating emotional hurt / trauma they create, up close and personally. It’s as good as Karma gets for some… probably for most of us. Right now. I’m still hopeful…
that we will learn and grow past all of this. And I have to remember my own ability to slip into the darkness of fear, own it for myself and be responsible for it. I figure that’s a major reason I’m here… to stretch and grow on a higher level of being. But…
these assholes are just effn’ mean!

I totally support their 1st amendment rights to carry out their protests.
I also support their right to accept responsibility for their actions and words. When they incite people to perpetrate acts of violence against them, I’m not going to feel the least bit sorry for them or make any effort to bring the perpetrators to justice.
You walk down the street in the hood yelling black racial slurs and you’re gong to get your ass kicked and receive no sympathy from me. . . but I will support your right to do it.
If you’re willing to take responsibility for and accept the sometimes grave consequences of your actions, have at it.
I’m surprised these people have not been really seriously harmed.

Their evil empire is comprised not only of hate-spewing nutcases, but 9/11 of them are lawyers! So anyone who gets in their way, any municipality that tries to put a stop to their crap, gets their asses sued.

One positive thing about their protests is that the “good” Christians come out of the woodwork to counter-protest. Even other Baptists in Kansas speak out against their intolerance.

It hasn’t slowed them down, but kept their hatefulness quarantined to their own compound. Their congregation is family and extended family- they have no converts from outside.

Just think if the mainstream Muslim community came out like this in protest of their extreme factions there could be hope!

There is one son that left the family and has nothing to do with them now at all. Said that the father was very abusive. It’s too bad the kids in the family are subject to all this hate because it will stay with them as long as they are part of this.

To think Phelps himself used to be a civil rights attorney shocked me. If I remember reading about him, he also sued Ronald Reagan over separation of church and state, something about one of his ambassadors, I think it may have been to the Vatican. I don’t want to go check though to be certain, he makes my blood boil reading about him. How a person goes from doing that, to being such a vile human being is beyond me. He reminds me of the character Kane in the Poltergeist movies the way he looks, very creepy.

I imagine they need the lawyers. I think it unfortunate that they don’t need bodyguards.

CH, did you know that Giacomo’s in McAlester has a steak and spaghetti special on Saturdays? Damn…we’ll have to catch it next time…

I actually think those hyperhomophobic god-botherers got off lightly. Protesting at a serviceman’s funeral, especially one who died on active service is so f**king extreme, that I think slashing their tyres shows great restraint.
Even a visit from Mr. 7.62mm would not be untoward.
Although I think that a napalm bath would possibly be too much. Maybe
