Zenyatta Loses. I’m Glad
Yet another animal that “captured our hearts” is in the news today. The undefeated racehorse Zenyatta lost in the Breeders Cup today. I’m glad. No animal has ever captured my heart. While I do admit a certain fondness for my dog, I am much fonder of a carpet without stains and a yard I can walk through without having to dodge animal excrement.
There was a movie about Secretariat that recently came out. I didn’t care about it either. It was a fast horse. I give it it’s due. But it still was a horse and no matter how much it’s owner told Secretariat how special she was. I don’t even know if Secretariat was a he or a she, it didn’t understand what in God’s name, or whatever horses that don’t understand english think, Secretariat didn’t think she was special. She only knew that when the gate opened it was time to run. She won the Triple Crown. Great horse. Deserves to be stuffed and exhibited at Churchill Downs and not sent to the glue factory. But she didn’t capture my heart either.
In a twisted way though, too bad millions of Americans won’t enjoy the same future Zenyatta has. When Zenyatta is done busting his ass for his owner he will get a nice pasture. Plenty of oats. Good sex. The occasional apple. Most of us are seeing our retirement pensions eliminated. Kooky tea baggers that want to end Social Security and Medicare. Nursing home costs that bankrupt families in a matter of months.
I may not have lost my heart to Zenyatta. But I am jealous of the bastard.
The Goran from Star Trek. Now that captured my heart.

Zenyatta might of lost the race but she won Horse of the Year last night. Going 19-1 her entire career is pretty special especially when you consider the feat was performed by a mare. Secretariat was a male btw.
sigh*..makes me feel bad..
LOL to these comments. Great post Joe, although I am a horse lover and up until a couple of years ago owned one. Then again I am an animal lover extraordinaire, like Mother Hen and a few friends.
The only difference between a horse and tea bagging Christine O’Donnell I care about is I’d rather seen Christine naked.
I’d rather play chess against Christine also. A horse is smarter than her. I know I could beat Christine
The horse is female and I think she just liked to run. She’ll be long forgotten in a couple of days as the news cycle moves to the next thing.
Me I’m afraid of teabaggers they’re far scarier than horses or clowns.
I don’t even know for sure what sex Zenyatta or Secretariat are.
Lose my heart to an animal. Maybe Mother Hen but she’s not really an animal.
Besides, I had a bad experience with a horse when I was 12. The guy that set me up on the goddamn thing still tries to Facebook friend me for no other reason than to remind of that freaking horse.
This would make for a good Lifetime movie. The ultimate ending would be me learning to love horses. I like Elmers Glue. That’s a good enough ending for me.
Well if you were scared as a child by horses, I can certainly understand. I’m like that with clowns.
🙂 As a horse riding enthusiast, I ask, how can you not be captured by those magnificent animals? The only horse that captured my attention ever, well there are two. The one that threw me a couple years ago and I almost died, still ride him, still love the big goon. Barbaro was the second one. Won the KY Derby a few years back then broke his ankle which led to his death by euthanasia :(. It seemed the whole country just loved Barbaro for a minute then he was forgotten. I haven’t been following the horses this year at all. Just went and did some reading on our friend Zenyatta here. Like you said, nope nothing to lose my heart over or get all excited about at all, when the country is going to shit.
