Troops to leave Afghanistan by July 2011
The US is “setting conditions” to begin an Afghanistan troop withdrawal in July as planned, says a White House report. While President Obama’s strategy in the region is “showing progress,” the document says, “the challenge remains to make our gains durable and sustainable,” the Washington Post reports. Taliban gains have been “arrested in much of the country and reversed in some key areas,” but progress remains “fragile and reversible.”
The summary report cites “significant progress in disrupting and dismantling the Pakistan-based leadership and cadre of al-Qaeda over the past year.” Afghan troop recruitment has beaten its goals and forces have “sharply improved their training effectiveness. The summary doesn’t include supporting data, nor does it offer specifics on the withdrawal process; the original review is classified. Obama will discuss the report today.

“The mice ate the marijuana” was an excuse no more believable than “the dog ate my homework” for authorities in Argentina, where eight police officers have been fired over the disappearance of around 1,200 pounds of pot.
Won’t happen IMO, MIC won’t allow it to end so we will be there like we are everywhere else, at great expense to lives there. It’s already started with the spin about the whole, it will depend on facts from the ground, like they did with Iraq.
I am very proud of my president for deciding to reduce the size of the war he transferred from Iraq to Afghanistan. He finds needless troop loss appalling, as he made very clear while railing against the former Bush Administration. I remember something during his campaign about how he would also close Guantanamo and now I believe he keep that promise too. I am not sure where he intends to relocate it or when he will close the new location. He seems to be dragging his feet a bit, but I completely understand. With only days left, he is currently trying to avert a nuclear holocaust, for God’s sake!
Continuing to support his commander in chief,

We will leave Afghanistan, like we left Iraq, Japan, Korea and Germany.
So true my friend. So true….
Until they leave we got squat. And when they leave but there are still thousands left and the killing continues it will still be squat that was had.
I say squat will be the winner.
Probably squat will be the winner 🙂
