Is This the End of Sarah Palin?

Read Time:6 Minute, 30 Second

Well, the Bombastic Bimbo from Holy Hell is the talk of the town again. There’s a difference this time: the poor, poor victim is being crucified (pun intended) for her “whoops, did I say that?” Well, yes she did. And she’s running to her fellow Himbo Hannity so she can be Hannitized. Yes, that’s a new word for the Urban Dictionary: David Weigel… coining a new definition of the neologism “Hannitize”: (v) To clean up a messy situation with a softball interview, typically one conducted by Sean Hannity.” Nice

There is an upside to Ms. Malaprop’s media mess. It would seem that one can now know with certainty that people who still admire her Our Lady of Victimhood (thank you, Jess) are mindless manical bigots and a plethora of of the intellectually devoid.

There are GOP moderates, who already distanced themselves from the lunatic rabble. Many of them realize that this woman, in my opinion, is a waste of the food chain and should be ignored. Perhaps this latest faux pas [to be polite] will relegate her to the Coulterlgeist ranks whose poison we have, thankfully, not heard in a long time.

I differ with Meghan McCain on several political points [in particular, her support of the potential GOP presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, in 2012], but take a bit of evil glee in her remark that: “Sarah Palin is the only part of the campaign that I won’t comment on publicly and that during the 2010 president election, [Palin] was turning out to be somebody who leaves a wake of confusion and chaos—to the point of dizziness — wherever she went. She was not just an overnight success or even a political Cinderella story. She was a sudden, freakishly huge, full-fledged phenomenon.

Thank you, yet again, to Alternet for what I could term “a glimmer of hope.” And this time, I hope we keep blogging about Paln’s comments and “blood libel” comment so any reader knows the extreme extent of her endless prevarication. Let’s spread the word Christians who adhere to their beliefs that love is the greatest commandment do not reflect Palin and her Pee Party’s poison. Yes, Howard, I want to vomit on her, also.

This “woman” deserves something better than hatred. How about complete disregard so her hate-mongering stops poisoning our country?

With every headline-making gaffe or nasty comment Sarah Palin has made over the past few years, pundits and citizens alike have pondered this question, and the answer, until now, is that like the Energizer Bunny, she just keeps going.

Still, it’s worth asking again, in the wake of last weekend’s senseless tragedy which puts a new light on her public persona. Palin’s cavalier use of violent imagery may not have directly caused the Tuscon shooting that left six dead and a dozen wounded—but it seems uglier now. Her endless gambits to rule the news cycle may be grudgingly admired at other times—but when it takes precious time away from mourning those whose lives are lost forever, it has a pathetic, out-of-touch-feel.

The heat on Palin began almost immediately after the horrific Giffords shooting, when social media users, bloggers and journalists by the hundreds made the immediate connection between Giffords’ Arizona district and Palin’s infamous “reload” crosshairs map, which put a target over that district. This map from Palin’s camp had bothered onlookers at the time: Giffords herself had warned about it having consequences. So it was natural that the map came back to mind.

More information surfaced about the alleged shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, showing that he was not a Tea Party acolyte but a disturbed individual with complex, confused personal and political motives. Nevertheless, a Palin aide made the mistake of declaring that no, the targets on the map were surveyor’s marks, not gun crosshairs. This backtrack came despite the Twitter command to “reload” that initially led Palin’s followers to the map. Such a ridiculous denial, of course, made Palin’s staff look all the more culpable, as absurd defensiveness so often does. It was an amateur move, to say the least.

At that point, pundits like Joe Scarborough urged Palin to pledge to tone down her rhetoric—not to apologize, but to demonstrate reflectiveness.

On the morning of the memorial for the victims of the shooting, the previously silent Palin released an eight-minute video declaring her hatred for war and violence, and then accusing critics of perpetrating a “blood libel” against her [or her customary hyperbolic and maniacal I AM A VICTIM rant?]

The video clip’s disturbing qualities encompassed more than the offensive anti-Semitic connotations that Palin probably didn’t even understand. Beyond the awful word choice, the tone of her eight-minute message on a day meant to be devoted to the victims of the attack was jarring and bizarre. Even in the pundit class that has revered Palin for being a spokesperson for a subset of America, there was some serious head-scratching. Palin’s words exposed her strategy for all to see: seize the spotlight and hold on, no matter what the circumstances. Most of the media-savvy population was aware of that strategy. But on a day of grief, it appeared nakedly venal and self-serving [Ya think?]… it raises the inevitable question of what Palin would be without that strategy, whether she stands for anything at all beyond her successful pose as media provocateur… she still chose to make such a tragic day and a traumatic incident about herself… when contrasted with Obama’s magnanimous, gentle and rousing speech, the queen of folksiness looked remarkably out-of-touch, even narcissistic. Kurtz himself… after taking her critics to task, saying she’d “gone nuclear” with her speech.

Others were less measured in their reactions to her behavior. Representative James Clyburn dismissed her as not having the intellect to comprehend the tragedy. Mark Green in the Huffington Post declared her candidacy, and even perhaps her future as a pundit dead. He wrote:

Because she has not shown any of the experience, intellect, character or temperament to be a serious presidential contender—and because Republican leaders are not politically stupid—she has now officially been destroyed as a serious candidate not by the “lamestream” media but by herself. She’s her own worst enemy.

Cool.

Palin is backed into a corner. But it is a corner that can be effective for rallying an increasingly vocal, if marginal base… stop a second and remember that this is how people like Sarah Palin operate. This is how they get others to follow them. They make themselves out to be victims, and convince their followers that they, too, are victims…. Every criticism, every defeat, every attack is just evidence of the virtue of her chosen path

It’s doubtful that Sarah Palin’s loyal base will turn on her any time soon. And perhaps she’ll continue to seek office with some success, or the media will keep her around for her point of view as they have with known bigot and anti-Semite Pat Buchanan. (Buchanan has softened his tone to that of an avuncular grump, and even he thought Palin should make a statement that she would tamp down her rhetoric for the sake of her career if nothing else.)

We wish tragedies like this weekend’s never occurred, and no result of them can ever be seen as a positive. But it’s a time-honored truth that adversity brings out a person’s true character, for better or worse. For Sarah Palin, it’s definitely been for worse. She won’t disappear, but she may have lost some unearned stature that should have been sloughed off long, long ago.

It is a great post! One little tiny personal aside, dear Stella, did you have to be iconoclastic with Witch? Did you not see or read WICKED? You sting me! (no harm.)

It’s always been so very obviously “all about her”… in a very ugly way. Now you would think that’s been totally exposed. Her use of “blood libel” I’m of the mindsync that she doesn’t comprehend what it actually stands for (etomologistically) and she should be paying the hard cash political price for all of this…eh? Her own words/actions fully reveal her to all but the equally ugly and selfish hate mongers who cling to her even as she sinks.
What’s so fantastic is reading or hearing those who think she’ll survive this…. gad!
Great post Stella.

Well,, there’s the Wicked Witch of the East and the Good Witch of the North–like Glenda. who is probably Wiccan. I hope I have redeemed my error, my friend…

That our Lady of Perpetual Victimhood (as Jess so appropriately named her) is absolutely clueless of “the blood libel” epithet, I’m not so sure. I hope she does not know the etiology of what she the term. That she does know is far worse and more frightening. Maybe she thinks she made the term up because Shakespeare coined new words.

Her comment is far more disturbing that the Coltergeist’s proclamation that “Jews are unfinished Christians.” Speaking of the anorexic specter, when’s the last time we heard anything from her?

To be fair, many moderate Republicans are distancing themselves from Queen Pee and her Pee Party. That this last bigoted revilement and self-serving hateful declaration will be her undoing? One can hope…

the “anorexic specter” ???!!! OMFG! LMFAO! I like that.

You know, I saw that as hopeful, the distance some GOP-ers were doing and then
the more news covered crowd, liek Pawlenty began to back peddle. What I find so damn depressing about it is that they have ‘numbers’ to suggest that abandoning Sistah Sarah is going to shoot their chances for election…??? That just fouls’ my mind. That many stupid people vote? I know it’s unkind, but I think its’ honest.

Stella, some a wonderfully written post for such an awful person. Is almost a tragedy for such eloquent phrasing to be wasted on one so unworthy. However, with that being said, you spoke of her being cornered. Have you ever tried to corner a snake my dear. Truly a daunting task. She will somehow slither out of it.

I just read about the End of Beck on a Jolly site of note. The Palin frenzy may fizzle out, but I don’t think the Beck one will. Beck is too much like “the rest,” whereas Palin routinely embarrasses the Rest. Then again, Bush became president, so one never knows.

No offense to Bush or Palin if you are reading. Love you guys.

Actually, more and more evidence is surfacing that the guy was an Alex Jones-style right wing lunatic, on a par with Tim McVeigh-and a hell of a lot of people in the Nazi State of Arizona.

Sarah (the naked truth) Palin always inflicts on herself more damage than any of us could, yet she is still around, she came across as dumb as a bag of hammers during the campaign, she and McCain still garnered 10s of millions of votes. She has her believers and they ain’t budging.

Many thanks to all for your kind comments. Domine nom sum dignum. Jess’ comment “Our Lady of Perpetual Victimhood” inspired me. So, thanks, Jess.

Most of the text beneath the poster bearing the Shakespeare quote is from Alternet, the best quick progressive news reference site on line. From there, readers can find many, many great resources.

Yes, Bro. Palin and her ilk are destroying America? Yet, what happened to the Coultergeist? It’s always gratifying to see the ignorant disappear into oblivion.

Mycue, that you read this post despite your boycott of all things Palin (obviously, you’re extremely intelligent), is quite a compliment. Thank you.

Hi, Jack. I’m technically challenged, but hope to stop by soon. So, if, as you wish, Ms. Thing sails into the Bearing Sea, perhaps we can get her on the Titanic II.

When it comes to this ignorant harridan, Alexander Pope already wrote what I wish I could…

Of all the causes which conspire to blind
Man’s erring judgment and misguide the mind,
What the weak head with strongest bias rules,
Is pride, the never-failing vice of fools.
Whatever nature has in worth denied,
She gives in large recruits of needful pride;
For as in bodies, thus in souls, we find
What wants in blood and spirits, swelled with wind:
Pride where wit fails steps in to our defense,
And fills up all the mighty void of sense.
If once right reason drives that cloud away,
Truth breaks upon us with resistless day
Trust not yourself, but your defects to know,
Make use of every friend—and every foe.

GREAT POST, STELLA! Sarah Palin has quite obviously waaaayyyy overused her 15 minutes of fame, and her 8 minute video shows how ill-equipped she would be for the presidency. Whereas the President’s tone was victim-oriented and inspirational, her rant was about her and her only. This self-centered prima donna will just never get it, so it’s now time for her to take her dreams of grandeur along with her two shallow, ghostwritten books and sail far out of sight forever into the Bering Sea! Good riddance, Sarah Palin! We just don’t care about you OR your “ideas” anymore!

While I have a personal boycott of all things Palin, I couldn’t help myself with this article. It’s a wonderful post Stella. And as far as Palin goes, we can only hope that she has done herself serious damage this time. However, I fear, that just like every other time in the past when she has made a seemingly fatal gaffe, she will once again rise from the ashes. She has a Brett Favre like ability to keep coming back. Unfortunately I don’t thinks she’s gonna be sending incriminating photos via text anytime soon.

I see her using the maybe I will, maybe I won’t run to keep her name in the public eye and get coin from doing so. It would be too much hard work for Our Lady of Perpetual Victimhood to bear, having to handle more than the Foxness monster during a campaign. She won’t run because the money’s not good, compared to what she is getting now for being a twitterist, or having her speechifying done on the book of faces, where she won’t be called out on it and she can have her minions scrub the negative away within minutes. The freepers think she did just a fantabulous job on her speech the other day, and some went as far as saying that is the beginning of her 2012 campaign right there. Scary people.

All that being said, Michele Bachmann is being touted now, as a possible contender for 2012 and the only issues I can think of, for me anyway, what if they are putting the crazy up front to make someone like a Mike Pence, Haley Barbour or worse, Jeb Bush look sane in comparison. Scary times and I should not be so damn cynical about it but there it is anyway.

The thought of another Bush planted as POTUS is too horrifying to contemplate. What’s more horrifying is I think you’re right on the mark.

The evil that is The Palin extends beyond even the extremes of the Catholic Church and its position on exorcism. Then again I could more readily believe that The Palin exercises more control over America’s “stupid” than the devil himself. After all the devil isn’t on TV unless he is partitioning himself into Beck, Limbaugh, Boehner, et al. Fantastic post Sis….
