Nutty Newt wants to scrap the EPA

Read Time:1 Minute, 17 Second

We have long suspected that the Republicans really don’t want to protect Mother Nature, as by protecting her they are forced to place limits on what their corporate oil partners can do.  So, presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich has come up with a brilliant idea.  Read this shocking story from the WSJ:

Hours before the president delivers his State of the Union address, Newt Gingrich offered an ambitious proposal of his own: Scrap the Environmental Protection Agency.

During a speech to ethanol and bio-diesel producers in the presidential proving ground of Iowa, Mr. Gingrich, a possible GOP presidential contender, called for replacing the EPA with a new agency that would work with industry to streamline environmental regulations to insure U.S. businesses remain competitive and keep the environment clean.

The Republican presidential primaries don’t start until early 2012, and most of the potential field remains quiet at this stage in the election cycle. So Mr. Gingrich’s plan—one that should play well with conservative Republicans–marks one of the first policy offerings by a possible Republican candidate.
In a post on his website announcing his proposal, Mr. Gingrich referred to the EPA as “a tool of ideologues to push an anti-jobs agenda that would never survive the scrutiny of the American voter.”

Instead of overhauling the EPA, the former U.S. House speaker thinks it should be replaced with something called the Environmental Solutions Agency, which would work with the industry to foster innovation “to create a cleaner environment through smarter regulation.”
