Utah Republican Oda: Kill all cats and dogs using all means necessary!

Irritated by the proliferation of stray cats and dogs? Just move to Utah, where soon you’ll be able to take care of the problem … by shooting them. The Stir points to a new law being proposed by Representative Curt Oda, a Republican Japanese type American, who wants to legalize the killing of all feral animals. Of course, in order for the killing to be legal, the person doing it must be reasonably certain the animal is truly wild, and not just someone’s wandering pet. And if you don’t have a gun, no worries: clubbing, decapitation, or use of a bow and arrow would also be perfectly okay.
Oda, an Asian American, justifies the law by claiming it’s the cheapest and fastest solution to the homeless animal problem, but his idea has, not surprisingly, sparked a bit of an uproar amongst animal rights organizations, ksl.com reports. Where was that disgusting picture taken? I know barely any money is given to county animal shelters, but is this really how we treat companion animals in our America? I do hope there is at least, an incinerator, and that the carcasses aren’t burned right in those barrels.

Kristin, while I find this Republican’s idea disgusting, why lump all Republican’s in the same boat? In Louisiana, after Katrina, the local sheriffs were shooting dogs. These were not feral animals, but dogs whose owners had been rescued and could not take with them. Rescue groups were not allowed in. The Senator and Mayor of this town were Democrats.

The only positive spin I could see on this story is that maybe he is trying to keep people who need to shoot a dangerous varmint (like the dogs who were after my chickens once) from being prosecuted for it.
Most “strays” that get picked up by animal control are euthanized. If people saw a sick or injured animal, it is surely more humane and cost efficient to allow them to shoot it. Plus it is on their karma.
BUT I doubt that would be the only use to which this opportunity would be put. Oda just wants another appetizer course option for his family table. 🙁
When I a kid, my mother had a German Shepard, which got loose and was kindly shot by someone. It returned home to die. The executioner has probably forgotten the event, but I never will.
Next they’ll shoot people that are a drag on society. You know–the disabled, the downs kids, the homeless vets, those damned elderly who keep using Medicare when we need that money for the wars. This just shows the hardness within these control freaks, doesn’t it. Keep your pets in a fenced yard, spay and neuter, and above all, keep fascist animal killing creeps like this away!

Your report said feral and so I thought that is what we were discussing.
I have shot feral animals the occasional coyote or dog. I have 3 cats and 3 dogs all that were once strays. When feral or strays come on my property they can be friendly and I will do what I can to find their homes or new ones and or chase them off. But if they are any type of eminent threat to my dogs ,cats, geese, chickens or the cows they will be dispatched without very much thought. I owe my animals the first consideration.
