Scott Brown doesn’t seem to understand what his book title means

Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

Perhaps I’m making too big a deal out of this, but I take real issue with the title of Massachusetts Senator Scott Brown‘s new book. The title – Against All Odds – is truly ridiculous. I mean, really? Against ALL Odds? It’s as if he doesn’t really know the meanings of the words he writes.

Of course, perhaps I’m wrong about Mr. Brown. Maybe he’s the Scott Brown that grew up as an impoverished and malnourished son of subsistence farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa… wait, what?

Oh, actually he’s the Scott Brown who, according to the Washington Post, was a bit of a delinquent with a rough home life as a kid; but eventually was…

…able to demonstrate his remarkable skills on the basketball court and in the classroom. He became team captain. And his proficiency in Latin sent him to the national Junior Classical League convention representing Massachusetts students. His grades and athletics earned him a full basketball scholarship to Tufts University.

Right. There’s a rags to riches story if I ever saw one. Kid narrowly escapes a lifetime of hardship by, of all things, getting good grades and excelling at sports to earn a college scholarship. Can you believe that? I’ve never heard of anything like that.

Add to all that the fact that Brown was once featured in Cosmopolitan as America’s Sexiest Man, and you’ll have to excuse me if I don’t weep tears of joy for a man who made it out of hell by the skin of his teeth.

In all seriousness though, does Brown actually believe this line of garbage? Or is he just trying to sell books? Either way, you have wonder what this poor kid would have to say about what it really means to be up Against All Odds…

In the meantime, victims of extreme poverty, abuse, natural disasters, rape and murder continue to thank god it wasn’t them that had to go through this fellow’s hardships!

The title sounds suspiciously similar to other graduates of the Sarah Palin Skule of Book-Namin’ and Dog-Mushin’!, Inc.

I guess I wasn’t paying attention to him Michael. I wonder if he would have lasted in one of my neighborhoods. While he wants everyone to believe in his greatness there is one thing that overrides everything else. He had to have the luck of being noticed by someone who gave a shit. There could very well be thousands like him that no one cared enough about to notice. So he had a lot better odds than a lot of kids do. I challenge him to a game of “knife chicken” for his senate seat.

I saw him on 60 Minutes last night, he did have a rough childhood, but we all have a story, I certainly do. He seems like a man on a mission, the book sales will be good, but he is already wealthy, I think he has his eyes on a bigger prize.

I have to agree. The title of his book certainly insults those who have truly succeeded “against all odds.” Excellent post!
