(Newser) – Attention, lamestream media: Sarah Palin has had it with you, to the point where she’s not even going to whine about you anymore. Seems Bill Maher called her a nasty name ever-so-subtly invoking female genitalia, NOW leaped to her defense, and Palin went on Fox yesterday to tell everyone to shove it, reports CNN. “I’m through whining about a liberal press that holds particularly conservative women to a different standard, because it doesn’t do any good to whine about it,” Palin told Greta Van Susteren.
“Nobody ever promised life was going to be fair,” she continued. “And politics really isn’t fair, the scrutiny, the double standards, and all that. I’m dealing with it I guess in a different way than others who want to bring more light to it and demand that Bill Maher apologize.” As for NOW? “I need NOW’s defense like a fish needs a bicycle.”

The tragedy of Bill Maher’s comment is it revealed a great deal about Maher sexism and virtually nothing about Palin. Period.
There should be no double standards. Maher does own all women an apology.
Would Maher have defenders on the left if the exact identical word for word “joke” was made about Michelle Obama? Would Maher even still have his job at HBO?

YEah I know it isn’t politically correct to call gender specific derogatory names! But frankly, he was correct, she is!! And I don’t see how this is any worse (or better) than me or another woman referring to a male politician as a prick or dick! I have done both! Not in the least apologetic. Maybe just lightening up would be a really good idea! Have a funfilled, non-gender stereotypical day.

As for Bill, I think he owes all women an apology, but perhaps not Sarah specifically.
In his defense, if you are satirist, you owe a lot of apologies, and the debts are usually easily forgiven.
