Uber-Christian Barton: God and founding fathers against net neutrality

Read Time:2 Minute, 31 Second

Let’s face it! Some of these crazy Christians, are, well just plain crazy.  If there were a ranking system, a hierarchy if you will, David Barton of Texas would be in the top three.  A raging conservative,  Barton represents the Texas congregation, and the Republican constituency quite well.

Barton represents himself as an “historian.” He is an American evangelical Christian minister, political activist and founder of the group WallBuilders, a Texas-based organization that describes itself as “dedicated to presenting America’s forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built.”  Barton is the former co-chair of the Texas Republican party which should come as no surprise to anyone, given the right wing bent for Jesus, Ronald Reagan, and the Bible.

The idea that all Internet traffic should be treated equally is against the teachings of the Bible and America’s Founding Fathers says Reverend David.  Apparently the Bible was filled with references to the world wide web.

During his radio show on Tuesday, he said that net neutrality violated the Biblical principle of free markets, a principle upheld by Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington.

“That is part of the reason we have prosperity,” Barton said. “This is what the Pilgrims brought in, the Puritans brought in, this is free market mentality. Net neutrality sounds really good, but it is socialism on the Internet.”

“This is really, I’m going to use the word wicked stuff, and I don’t use that word very often, but this is wicked stuff,” he added.

Speaking of “wicked stuff” it is worthy of note that Barton is a honcho for the Glenn Beck University, whatever that could be, and also aligns himself with Michele Bachmann and newly born again Christian Newt Gingrich in asserting that Jesus is against the minimum wage.

As TalkingPointMemo noted, Barton has also appeared as an expert witness in the infamous Texas Board of Education textbook hearings and argued that homosexuality should be regulated by the government.

“This is the Fairness Doctrine applied to the Internet, and I’ll go back to what I believed for a long time is: fair is a word no Christian should ever use in their vocabulary,” Barton continued. “Fair has nothing to do with anything. What you want is justice, you don’t want fairness. Fairness is subjective, what I think is fair, what you think, what happened to Jesus wasn’t fair. That’s right, but we needed justice so God did that for us.”

So will David Barton be the next Republican presidential wanna be?  No doubt he has the proper credentials.  He believes in creation, not evolution, as well as silly myths about a guy names Jesus flying up to heaven,  the devil in the person of Barack Obama, and of course the rest of that biblical nonsense, which makes him a perfect fit for the G.O.P.

In an effort to give religious minorities an equal voice, a movement has been started to get Jason Pitzl-Waters on the Daily Show. Jason is a Journalist for the Washington Post and creator of The Wild Hunt news blog. He is a well qualified public speaker and is well informed about the misinformation spread by David Barton.

As informed citizens, I would like to ask for your support in giving an equal voice in an adequate forum for minority religions. Please click on the link to show your support!

Wait just a minute. Is there some way I could get a debate with this guy. Fairness is wrong but justice is right. Wow! I would have this guy bending over eating out his ass in about 5 minutes. Hey Mike, can I get him to take one of my graduate seminars?

There are crazies everywhere, including from time to time hear at MMA. Speaking of which I love the share bars, especially on the front page, and your new home page links are nice. I just noticed the banner was a lot smaller too, and this just adds to the look of your site. Good work.

Why is that so many idiots seem to come out of Texas? Tom DeLay and Rick Perry come immediately to mind but there are so many, many more.

Know what though, you have people like Molly Ivins, Jim Hightower, Anne Richards that came from Texas also. We have the idiots here in California also, see little Ricky Warren of higher purpose fame from southern Ca.

Barton is the one Huckabee said we should all be forced to listen to at gunpoint. Hell I would put gun to mouth my own self if forced to listen to half the shit they spout on a daily basis. Supply side Jesus all the rage in righty circles. They all forget the Jesus that was written about in Matthew, something about take care of the least of these or some such. Them socialisty, liberally thingys are really not good for the Talibangelical hordes.
