End taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil NOW

Read Time:1 Minute, 0 Second

Big Oil is making big profits. In the past decade alone, the big five oil companies — BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil and Shell — reaped profits of nearly $1 trillion. Consumer gas prices are on the rise. More and more extreme weather events remind us that climate change is here, now. And to top it all off, these same polluters are still receiving massive taxpayer-funded subsidies.

Just one year after the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history — the BP’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico — BP’s profits topped $5 billion. Shell’s earnings have risen by more than 30 percent, and it’s seeking to add to its profits by drilling not one but 10 exploratory wells in the Arctic. Exxon reaped earnings almost 70 percent higher than it did last year. And our taxpayer dollars are given away to these big polluters through subsidies and tax credits totaling approximately $4 billion annually, while funding for environmental protection is on the chopping block.

Had enough? The Center for Biological Diversity has. But now, we have a real opportunity to end taxpayer giveaways to Big Oil. Please help us make it happen.

Not sure how much good it will do, but I went and filled out the information. If it helps, great, if not, at least I tried. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
