House attacks women: Sweeping anti-abortion legislation passes

Read Time:3 Minute, 0 Second

The Religious Right has successfully made their puppets in the congress dance, and we’re not just talking about the Republicans, as there are clearly some Democrats  dancing to the strings of the Lord.

Yesterday, in a “no surprise there” move, the Tea Party controlled congress struck a blow for God and the Good Book by voting to give women a good swift kick in the pants, no pun intended.

No doubt they are congratulating themselves and playing the good sycophant with their fanatic supporters, and, as mentioned the following Democrats voted with the Jesus Jumpers:

Jason Altmire

Dan Boren

Jerry Costello

Mark Critz

Henry Cuellar

Joe Donnelly

Tim Holden

Marcy Kaptur

Dale Kildee

Daniel Lipinski

Jim Matheson

Mike McIntyre

Collin Peterson

Nick Rahall

Mike Ross

Heath Shuler

People should make a note of those names come election time in 2012.  I guarantee I will be doing a lot of writing about these “representatives of the people.”

Here’s the story on the latest congressional fiasco, where ideology trumps good law and common sense:

The House voted 251-175 on Wednesday to pass the GOP’s controversial anti-abortion measure H.R. 3, “The No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act.” Sixteen Democrats joined 235 Republicans in approving it.

It now goes to the Senate, where it’s all but certain to perish. The White House has threatened to veto it.

The legislation would eliminate tax deductions for employer-provided health insurance plans that cover abortion, effectively raising costs for businesses that offer abortion-inclusive health care to employees. It could also deny Medicaid-based abortion care to women even if their health may be harmed by carrying the pregnancy to term.

“This bill just simply helps codify what has de facto been our policy for 35 years through the Hyde amendment, and that is a policy that in no way shape or form outlaws abortion,” said Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hansarling (R-TX).

Democrats said it would harm small business and further restrict the private medical decisions of women.

“This bill goes far beyond prohibiting federal funding [for abortion],” said Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY). “The real purpose and effect of this bill is to eliminate private health care choices for women by imposing significant tax penalties on families and small businesses when they use their own money to pay for health insurance or medical care.

The measure maintains exemptions for cases of rape, incest and when the mother’s life is in danger. But a committee report left open the possibility that the legislation could deny federally-subsidized abortion in instances of statutory rape.

Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) called it “common sense bipartisan legislation” that reflected “the will of the American people and ought to be the law of the land.”

Abortion-rights groups were livid and promised a backlash.

“This bill is so extreme that it manipulates the tax code to advance anti-choice policies and could spur the IRS to audit rape and incest survivors who choose abortion care,” said Nancy Keenan, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. “Members of Congress who supported this egregious assault on women will hear from outraged Americans through phone calls, protests, petitions, and most importantly, at the ballot box in 2012.”

Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, said she was “outraged” that the measure passed. “H.R. 3 is a dangerous bill that goes far beyond any other proposal ever introduced in Congress to take comprehensive health care coverage away from women,” she said.

What do you think about this latest assault on women’s rights?  Leave a comment and share your thoughts with all of us.

Common sense legislation my butt. This won’t go anywhere, but will shore up the Talibangeligal vote for next year. It’s one of the issues that gets the paste eaters out to the polls and they would have done something way before now to get all the way rid of it if they wanted to.

It’s a good thing they are looking into the uteri though, because we women just have so many jobs in there. We’re hiding them from the powers that be. Damn but these people seriously piss me off with this. Forget which one of them said the most hard hit minority is a fetus, on the floor of the house no less.

The U.S. continues to support backward thinking! I see America becoming a theocratic government. As a Canadian, I guess I’ll move to Australia where there’s an atheist Prime Minister. Canada is usually just a few steps behind the U.S. in their philosophies.

Try living in England mate…we’re tied in knots with political correctness…We’re so ‘close to the USA’ over here it’s frightening….

You ask for ‘black paint’ and you get arrested for racism….you ask for ‘white paint’ you get arrested for ‘white supremacy’…both have happened quite recently….

You sing Carl Douglas’ 1970’s hit ‘Kung Fu Fighting’ at a kareoke in a pub and a China man walks by and gets offended you get arrested…it happened a couple of weeks back…I kid you not…I’ll supply the link if you doubt me…actually I’ll supply it anyway…

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/law-and-order/8475965/Pub-singers-racism-arrest-over-Kung-Fu-Fighting-performance.html

…and that’s The Telegraph so don’t harp on about ‘right wing’ press over here ok?

Mars sounds good….assuming the Martians aren’t politically correct of course…

For once brief, bizarre moment on reading the headline ‘House Attacks Women’ I had this image of Semi-Detached, Terraced, Apartments and even Condominiums as you call them, uprooting themselves and charging about attacking women.

How do you arrest a house for assault? My mind is clearly unhinged…

‘God-botherers’ as we unkindly but not unreasonably call them in England really need to understand…religious beliefs and politics combined are a bad thing.

Islam has clearly taught them nothing.

My deepest sympathies to American democracy….although only, I hope, for the time being….if the bill is killed off there is still hope.

Oh my Gawd!!!!! When will this country ever start thinking and realize that God has no business in government. This is a terrible piece of legislation and I guarantee there is at least one congressman on that list who won’t be getting my vote.
