No Doomsday? So What Happened to the Rapture?
Oh those poor crazy Christians, scrambling about here and there, trying to find Jesus, and still not convinced the Rapture never happened. Unfortunately, lots of the faithful gave up their homes, life savings, and of course sanity to wait for the coming of the J-man. Their twisted leader, Harold Camping, has no idea why Jesus was a no show and appears somewhat shocked by the whole non-Rapture that he predicted would be a real Rapture.
According to The News Chick a few billboards in the Seattle area announced the end of the world was coming May 21st. Didn’t happen. “That was awkward,” is the billboard response.
The Family Radio Group, led by Howard Camping, launched an expensive advertising campaign to promote judgment day. Saturday was supposed to be the beginning of the end – the first day in a five month event that would end with the universe destroyed on October 21, 2011. Other church groups shared the belief and purchased their own billboards and advertising vehicles to spread the message. Now what? The billboard below has been making the rounds on social media sites today. I haven’t been able to verify yet whether it’s a billboard that actually went up somewhere, or a billboard created through a clever photoshop job.
What are your post-rapture thoughts today? If you believed it would happen, how will you defend yourself against the people who will make jokes at your expense? A sociologist, who’s studied these kinds of doomsday predictions, says for some it’ll reinforce their beliefs.
“A third of believers become disillusioned after a failed prediction, while another third find reason to believe more strongly. The remaining group members fall somewhere in between,” says Stephen Kent with the University of Alberta, in an interview with Live Science.

The rapture was supposed to happen ahead of the Thunder/Mavericks NBA playoff game three. Considering how poorly the Thunder played, the rapture could have gone on as planned, as far as I am concerned.
Camping is either a fraud or a fool. Either way, he certainly qualifies as a false prophet.
I was initially irritated that The Rapture was due to occur before the evening’s episode of Doctor Who.
I am now even more irritated that if it happens this week as the mad bastard got his figures wrong I will miss the ending of what turned out to be a two part episode.
God! Are you listening??? You dare end the world before 8pm UK time next Saturday and you and me will be sharing an understanding!!!!
Cognitive Dissonance. The tendency of the brain to deny evidence to hold on to an idea that has been invested in emotionally. The foundations of this process were uncovered after a similar event, the “great disappointment” (the Millerites failed prediction of the end of the world).
Only God knows when that will happen and he’s not sharing that info ever.
