The DOG that was a SEAL

Read Time:1 Minute, 1 Second

My friend mentioned to me yesterday that dogs probably helped take out Osama bin Laden, right along with and part of the SEAL team.  I doubted it, and even scoffed, like the idiot I can be, and was, once again proved wrong!

Here is the story of how yet another of our wonderful four legged friends helped us kill the enemy:

The elite special forces team that took down Osama bin Laden is getting lots of credit, but the Sun reminds us that a four-legged member of the team helped, too. One bomb-sniffing dog, probably a German shepherd, took part in the raid. It likely dropped out of a military chopper onto bin Laden’s compound strapped to a human handler and protected with armor, then sniffed for booby-traps in the room-by-room raid.

Dogs have been playing a bigger role in special ops missions overseas, notes the Sun. Some wearing oxygen masks get dropped into hostile environments from planes to seek out insurgents and attack anyone with a weapon. They also have cameras strapped to their heads that beam back live images to troops. See the Dogster blog for a photo of what a special ops “hero dog” looks like.

So Mr Bin Liner was actually bitten to death?…..I’m impressed!

The number of human lives saved by dogs in civilian and military terms is incalculable and extraordinary.

But don’t forget the pigeons eh?

I recently learnt that the greatest amount of military honours dished out to animals in both WWI and WWII in Great Britain went to pigeons.

We, humanity, are clearly not as insane as I thought.

After 3….1,2,3…

“Stop the pigeon, stop the pigeon, stop the pigeon, stop the pigeon, stop the pigeon, stop the pigeon, stop that pigeon NOW!”…..

(‘Dastardly and Muttly In Their Flying Machines’…a very weird cartoon from the 1970’s)

…just so you know…

Go Doggies!!!!

I’m sure your friend didn’t really know what (s)he was talking about either, and would have no problem with keeping the focus here on the brave ones, four-legged and/or otherwise, that so dutifully and effectively carried out this incredible mission. Great post!
