Accused millionaire pedophile allowed to watch child porn

Pedophile acting as his own lawyer is allowed to see all the evidence, including tapes of him having sex with children

Pedophiles can be anyone — old or young, rich or poor, educated or uneducated, non-professional or professional, and of any race.  They could be your best friend, or your neighbor,  your pastor or priest, or even the guy flying the plane.  They often hide in plain sight, protected by respected professions and professional demeanors.  A pedophile can knock on your door, or start an internet chat with your 8 year old.

Almost all pedophiles have a collection of pornography, which they protect at all costs. Many of them also collect “souvenirs” from their victims. They rarely discard either their porn or collections for any reason.

accused millionaire pedophile gets to watch porn
Read this story from OnDeadline:

Because he is acting as his own lawyer and may see the evidence, an accused pedophile in Washington state is being allowed to watch child pornography, including videos of him allegedly having sex with young boys, according to news reports.

Weldon Marc Gilbert, a millionaire and former commercial pilot arrested in November 2007, has unlimited access to the 28 hours of footage on more than 100 DVDs seized by police, KOMO-TV reported. He is in the Pierce County Jail in Tacoma awaiting trial. But he won’t be alone while watching the evidence, KIRO-TV points out. An investigator will be in the room.

The county prosecutor and sheriff say that denying Gilbert access risks a mistrial, noting that the state Supreme Court has ruled in his favor.

The Associated Press writes that in a plea bargain two years ago, Gilbert pleaded guilty in federal court and was sentenced to 25 years in prison for producing child pornography. But the deal was contingent on Gilbert also pleading guilty in state court to sex crimes, and when a judge told Gilbert his state sentence could be as long as life in prison, he withdrew his guilty plea.

The Seattle Weekly has posted the charging documents.

There is really no choice in this case. The court must follow their own rules to be certain there is no possibility of a mistrial or an acquittal on a technicality.

I think they really do want to put this person away for life; however short that might be in prison.

Kathleen, you have an illogical, emotional response that does not speak well of you at all.

So if there is video of him raping children, then whats the hold up on convicting him?! (CASTRATION AND DEATH TO ALL PEDOPHILES!)

The way the article presents this issue is extremely misleading. The question isn’t “Should pedophiles be allowed to view child pirn” but rather should ppl accused of a crime and acting in their own defence be allowed access to the evidence used against them ( while being accompanied by an investigator). If we respect the the idea of innocence before guilt the answer is certainly yes.
