The Age of Stupid
The final movie, a documentary
from the late great Pete Postelthwaite
“The Age of Stupid”
is up for major award
The Age of Stupid is a 90-minute film about climate change, set in the future. Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, Brassed Off) stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at archive footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance.
The Age of Stupid is one of five finalists up for the inaugural Impact Award. Oscar-nominated documentaries Burma VJ and Trouble the Water are also among those shortlisted. The award aims to honour the film that has made the most significant impact on society. The films highlight topics ranging from environmental issues to social justice and global conflict.
Postlethwaite was born in Warrington, England in 1946. He trained as a teacher and taught drama before training as an actor. Steven Spielberg called Postlethwaite “the best actor in the world” after working with him on The Lost World: Jurassic Park. He received an Academy Award nomination for his role in In the Name of the Father in 1993. He died of pancreatic cancer on January 2, 2011.
