Woman arrested for leaving puppy to die in hot car
Golden Retriever puppy dies while owner shops
The LA Times reports a 19-year-old woman was arrested in San Bernardino County for allegedly leaving her golden retriever puppy in a hot car while shopping at the mall, police said Wednesday.
The dog was left in the woman’s BMW for hours with no ventilation or water during a 90-degree day in Ontario, police said.
A passerby noticed and alerted authorities, who eventually removed the dog but not in time to save its life, said Officer Anthony Ortiz of the Ontario Police Department.
The woman, identified as Chang Qui, was arrested Monday on an animal-cruelty charge.
With the weather warming up, authorities have been ramping up efforts to warn the public not to leave pets and children alone in cars.

I think anyone who leaves an animal or child in the car for more than 3 minutes should be forced to suffer the same punishment 200 fold.
I am like you Mike. I always leave the car running and the back windows down about half way. Someone who does not know Rascal once stopped me and told me that somebody was going to jump into my car and drive off with it. I just smiled because anyone but me that jumps into that car will not be driving anywhere. Rascal perceives that X3 as being his and would do some serious damage to anybody jumping into the driver’s seat. But, again like you, I am rarely out of the car more than a couple of minutes as I am afraid that someone may walk too close to the car.
I take a couple of my dogs everywhere with me Leslie. However, I have a super heavy duty AC unit and I never stay away from them more than a few minutes just in case the engine stops for some reason. Fortunately that has never happened.
The temperature inside cars – even with windows cracked open – rises at least 20 degrees more than the outside temp.
