Chris Christie: Are Republicans Looking for Mr. Goodbar?

Read Time:2 Minute, 22 Second

To be frank, I really haven’t followed Governor Christie, but if national politics is like the local stage, the big time Republicans must not like their presidential choices if the push to get Christie into the race is so hard.

In case you’re wondering  those of us on the right should be disappointed.   The independent voters are fed up with government.  President Obama is ripe for the pickings.   Each time Rick Perry opens his mouth his chances of becoming the next president shrink significantly.   The eventual nominee is most likely going to be Mitt Romney.  A guy  conservatives like myself simply don’t trust as he is a chameleon, saying whatever he thinks will please his audience.   Thi isn’t unlike John McCain who wasn’t a conservative until he discovered conservatives rule the Republican party.  He then dropped his maverick persona and proclaimed he was a staunch conservative.

The real conservatives like myself aren’t fooled.  Looking at his record, Mitt Romney is no conservative.  He is just as willing as President Obama to compromise his principles to achieve at least some of what he wants. And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.  My father used to tell me a piece of something is better than a whole lot of nothing.

I am particularly irked by the spinmeisters who run the message for the Republican party.  They are working overtime  to tailor a message, true or not, that will appeal to us.   George Bush was the greatest example of this.  Low taxes, cutting spending and regulations were his theme.  He was shown cutting brush and wearing jeans like Ronald Reagan.  He talked tough and loved America.    Government spent like a New York Housewife and the Patriot Act vastly increased its influence in our lives.  What happened to his “humble” foreign policy is still a mystery.

I am also troubled that Rick Perry was convinced to run. Were those that rule scared of Romney?  Are they now scared of Perry?  They should be scared of Palin and Bachman.   Does the elite of the Republican party think it can own Chris Christie?

My advice to Mitt Romney is to be the CEO and governor you were. Not what you think the republicans want you to be.  The truth is we’re going to vote for you if you win the nomination.  An honest candidate, not owned and invented by big business and powerful insiders, will not only win the independent voters, he will also win the rank and file republican. And with that take the republican party back from the extremist Tea Party, or more likely, those that exploit them, and bring it back to those who truly understood Reagan’s message of limited government tempered with good sense and doing what’s right for America.

What do you think?  Is Chris Christie Mr. Goodbar and have the Republicans found him?

There is no way any one person will be right for the Republican Party because the Republican Party is so splintered they don’t know what they want. When it is all said and done their candidate will have said so many different things no one will have any idea where they will stand on anything. I am not sure the Democrats are much better off because Obama has spent 2 1/2 years trying to compromise with people who have thrown back in his face. We still do not know who Obama really is yet. Hell, I would run for president but I am quite sure I would shot the day after my inauguration because I would not put up with all of the bullsh*t that goes on up there.

I would run too but age prohibits me, so does being pro choice, pro equality, pro regulation for businesses, pro raising taxes, pro universal healthcare, against wars. IOW I am a DFH, oh and I am a woman with an IQ higher than my shoe size, forgot that minor little detail.

Reagan’s limited government, really REALLY you are still beating that limited government thing as it relates to St Ronald of Reagan. Oh and shh, don’t tell anyone.. those Tea Party people that you want to separate from the rank and file republicans, no go, they are all part and parcel of the same group, hint for you.. the Republican Party. That monster was created by republicans, the republicans own it and will have to deal with fixing it. As far as Christie goes, he’s not insane enough for the teabangelicals. After all, he appointed a Muslim to a court seat he, called out the crazies, said gay marriage is ok and some other crazee librul talk. One other minor detail, New Jersey people even hate him for what he is doing there.

Milton, do you think Reagan had a shrinking effect on government?

Fred Thompson was going to save the day for the republicans in 2008. He was a clown. Just as Christie will be exposed as a fat clown.

More of the same only even less qualified. If we must GOP, can we have Eisenhower back?

* The individual is of supreme importance.
* The spirit of our people is the strength of our nation.
* America does not prosper unless all Americans prosper.
* Government must have a heart as well as a head.
* Courage in principle, cooperation in practice make freedom positive.
* To stay free, we must stay strong.

These sound like the ideals of a tree-hugging, progressive liberal. Too bad the GOP chose Reagan as an ideal Republican rather than Eisenhower.

Can someone tell me what the attraction is to this Christie guy? He seems like a fat blowhard who has no patience for the questions of his constituents.
