Is Jerry Jones the new Al Davis?

Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

Jerry Jones is this

generation’s Al Davis

Remember when it was cool to be a Dallas Cowboy fan? After last night’s gift to the Jets, I don’t know how anyone could be a fan of them anymore.

Mark Sanchez, despite the Jets’ victory, is not an elite quarterback by any stretch. Either he or the Jets coaching staff don’t have enough faith in him to throw to spots rather than wait for receivers to turn around and look at him before he throws the ball, or he’s a mediocre quarterback on a team that’s got enough talent to hide it when they play mediocre teams.

The Cowboys flat out suck. The coaching last night in the last quarter sucked. I thought Cowboy owner Jerry Jones’ new head coach Jason Garret was supposed to be Mr. Wonderful. He’s pathetic. With less than ten minutes to go Romo throws a pass to tight end Jason Witten.

Witten, with the lead mind you, runs out of bounds stopping the clock. Witten’s not a rookie. That’s a junior high school mistake. Good teams have good coaches that make sure their players know how to freaking play the game and manage the damn clock. It’s not brain surgery, but a failure of Jason Witten and the coaching staff.

The next failure is Tony Romo. This guy is a walking error in judgement. Throws an interception in the final two minutes of game. Fumbles on Jets two yard line with a couple minutes to go and the Cowboys leading.

When will Jerry Jones admit he is a lousy general manager and has no clue how to judge talent. The only good football decision this guy ever made was to hire former coach Jimmy Johnson. Then he let him go after winning two Super Bowls. Johnson must be laughing his tail off every time Dallas blows another game. I wonder when Cowboy Nation will demand the Cowboys bring back Quincy Carter?

That’s what all this comes down to I think. Jerry Jones is like Raiders owner Al Davis. Only better dressed. Made some good, and just as likely lucky, decisions years ago. But now, just sad that his ego won’t allow him to admit he’s out of his league now. But in Jerry’s favor, he did build a nice stadium. Too bad for Cowboy fans he can’t build a nice football team.

jerry jonesNice stadium, shame about the team

I get paid as much as you do Joe, so if you are up for committing a major crime, count me in. I could do with a major NFL contract.

Jerry Jones got (as you suggest) lucky with Jimmy Johnson, then drove him away, even though they won another Super Bowl after he left it was Johnson’s team. Jones is a meddler and cannot sit back and let a (good) coach do his job. You got it right, Jones and Al Davis are peas in a pod.
