NCAA needs Stanford and Andrew Luck in BCS Championship
It looks like with Alabama, Arkansas and LSU in the top three of the BCS standings, the NCAA is most likely pooping it’s collective pants.
As with any sport, celebrity drives interest and a few programs can generate interest on their own. Remember Notre Dame or Nebraska and Oklahoma before the rise of Miami back when Jimmy Johnson was there? Even Penn State before the recent scandal. Other than that, college football is pretty much of regional interest. I watched the Rose Bowl one year only because Illinois was in it. I got a six pack of Illini Beer. The Fighting Illini got crushed and the Illini Beer tasted like after shave. Bad experience.
The only celebrities I can think of in college football now are Nick Saban, coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck. I won’t spend my time waiting for a shot of Nick Saban coaching as I had enough of shots of former Notre Dame coach lou Holtz walking up and down the sidelines after Notre Dame made a play. Exciting stuff watching a guy walk back and forth. I will spend my viewing time watching Andrew Luck though. Just as last year I watched Cam Newton. Time well spent. Cam’s a stud. So is Andrew Luck. Plus, Andrew Luck can be sold as must watch by the network and NCAA. As good a coach as Nick Saban is, watching a guy pace the sidelines and look at a clipboard now and then isn’t real compelling in my book. I’ll go with the athlete.
It’s lucky for the NCAA Oregon did it’s part and lost last week. Now if LSU and Arkansas can be good sports and lose their next game Saban, Luck and the NCAA will be in business.
What do you think?

Good stuff.
All very good points Joe but Arkansas will run into a similar fate it experienced when it faced Alabama. The LSU defense will not let the high powered Arkansas offenses get out of first gear. That is the same problem most teams have faced this year. When playing other opponents they run into good defenses, even by SEC standards. However, when they run into LSU and Alabama they into great defenses by any standards. They both simply smother opposing offenses while their own good offenses go about scoring in their methodical ways. LSU will similarly disassemble Georgia and win the SEC championship. The only question left is will the BCS put Alabama and LSU together again in the BCS Championship game. Andrew Luck is a good looking quarterback but I don’t think he would enjoy himself very much playing either of these two teams.
I agree Bill.
