Should Gabby Giffords step down?

Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

Let me begin by saying I share the concern for Representative Giffords everyone else does. I hope and pray she is able to recover fully from the near fatal gunshot wound.

What Gabriel Giffords and her ardent supporters need to realize now, however, is that her recovery is the priority in her life.

She cannot give her full attention to representing her district in Congress while she is in her current condition. As unfair as this may seem to many of the left leaning people that read this, I remind you all that life is not always fair. It’s unfair to her constituents to wait for her recovery while her aides act as their representative. They voted for Giffords. Not her assistants who by all token are operating her office and making decisions that should be made by the elected representative.

Sympathy is a powerful tool and motivator. No doubt it will be used by Gifford’s handlers to keep the seat in their hands. The only votes Giffords will appear for are those for which the President needs her. This is also unfair as the people she is supposed to represent may not want her to support positions taken by the current administration. It is my opinion that the democratic party should offer a different candidate than Gabrielle Giffords so the people in her Arizona district have a choice between two people currently capable of performing the duties of congressman rather than just playing for sympathy and allowing aides and handlers to make decisions.

Giffords can get well and come back when her physical condition permits.

She needs to be replaced. The sympathy card wore out for me about six months ago. I wish her well, but this is life. Real life. And, she was not elected to collect a full salary, benefits and a voting seat indefinitely. Time to move on now.

Let me begin by saying I share the concern for Representative Giffords everyone else does. I hope and pray she is able to recover fully from the near fatal gunshot wound.

So everyone else shares this concern? That’s nice to know. What you really mean is that all the other conservatives who feel the need to shed their wisdom and light upon the plight of dear Gabrielle Giffords also feel the need to state these meaningless words. If so, then why this?

From what I’ve seen her only claims to fame were she liked to ride her bike and was married to an astronaut who didn’t even live with her.

I guess since she was an elected representative of the U.S. Congress and he was a Space Shuttle Commander, there had to be times when they lived apart. Most people would consider this an act of selfless service. It certainly does not diminish their love. There have been many very emotional and public displays of Mark Kelly’s deep and abiding love for his stricken wife. Why wouldn’t he be in love with her? She remains one of the most beloved public figures in the country. She has always been intelligent, caring, hard-working, good-natured, honest and stunningly beautiful. From all appearances a very strong and happy marriage.

The only votes Giffords will appear for are those for which the President needs her.

Whatza matter? Don’t you like the president? And besides, that’s just your opinion man! I guess you stated as much, but still! You seem terribly young. I used to think that there were important matters that both republicans and democrats could agree upon and support together! I mean, there are, right?

As unfair as this may seem to many of the left leaning people that read this, I remind you all that life is not always fair.
You make a strong argument. For the hard-working American who will never be able to afford a home. For the grieving parents of a child killed by a drunken driver. For a child born into abject poverty and denied a good education. For an elderly couple who lost their home to catastrophic medical bills. For a bright, young congress critter who was meeting in a grocery store park parking lot with her constituents to be brutally shot through the head with a weapon that should have been banned, by a maniac whose sick head had been filled with right-wing hatred and lies. Yeah, I’d say life can be pretty unfair. Gonna have to try harder than that to prove to me that you care.

What Gabriel Giffords and her ardent supporters need to realize now, however, is that her recovery is the priority in her life.

Aren’t you sweet?

And how many outside of her district, even in her district, even heard of Gabby Giffords before that thug shot her and killed that poor little girl?

In the words of the immortal Reagan, “There you go again!” Poor little girl? Also, Milton, Loughner was not a thug. At least not in the traditional definition. A thug is like the two guys who pummeled Doghouse O’Reilly in The Big Sleep or maybe a violent policeman or soldier enforcing the iron will of a totalitarian oppressor. The last time I checked, “Thug” was one of the buzzwords that right-wingers enjoy using about SEIU members or non-Tea Party protestors and such.

Nice meeting you 🙂

F*cking A man! I agree with every word you just wrote. Every single one, except for how nice it was meeting Milton 🙂

I would imagine plenty of people knew her, in her district, since she did those gatherings frequently prior to the assisination attempt. Outside I don’t know, because not many are informed about politicians.

You make another good point Jess. Everything I’ve read tells me she was a popular representative of the people.

Gabby is not now, nor has she ever been a congressman, just so you know, there are plenty of women in congress. You’ve made that Freudian slip more than once now. Maybe we should look into others that have missed votes like… oh I dunno… Michele Bachmann as but one example and she does not have the excuse of having been shot in the head to miss her votes. Anything to say about that?

You go girl! Can men say that?

While I am sure that Uncle Miltie has only Gabby’s best interests at heart he might want to think about the fact that the people he thinks are making the decisions are the same people that Gabby put in place to assist her. She was able and competent enough to show up for the critical debt ceiling vote.

Gabby is on disability due to a work related injury. Would you say the same for thousands of people who have been hurt at their jobs, that the company should just let them go, I wonder. Not as if the house is doing anything anyway and we have Boehner to thank for that. Next yr they will only work 109 days and most of those days are just naming post offices, so it’s not as if anything important is being done.

You make a good point Jess. The congressional pinheads embody lazy, useless, and stupid. Gabby is not the embodiment of congress. She is the exception. I say she stays out as long as she needs to…

She needs to take all the time she needs to get over this shooting, and then make a decision accordingly. We need to have some compassion. Not all of us are republicans.

Considering it was a registered Democrat who shot her, perhaps you should rethink your post.
