Twelve Ways You Can Help Occupy

Join an Occupy Protest in Person or at Home

There are at least 13 ways you can help Occupy Together—even from home.

A small group of anti-corporate activists took over Zuccotti Park almost two months ago citing the goals of the burgeoning Occupy protests, which quickly grew into an international movement. Demonstrations across the world show the increasing outrage over the growing financial chasm between rich and poor.

Young protester at an Occupy movement

1. Go to Liberty Plaza to join those at the epicenter of the movement and the inspiration for what’s happening across the country. This group is arranging carpools via Facebook.

2. Get an address to send non-perishable food, books, magazines, coffee, tea bags, aspirin, blankets and socks to your local movement. You can get information on Facebook’s Occupy Together and find local protests at the Occupy Together site.

3. Have pizza delivered to local protestors.

4. Tell the nation’s mayors to respect the people’s right to free assembly. The eviction of the Liberty Square and Oakland occupations were averted by massive public protest from those in the square and beyond. If you learn of a threatened movement, use this mayor list to find contact information and phone numbers—express your support to let the protestors demonstrate to her/him. This list also includes the governor’s name in each state.

5. Circulate word of Occupy College’s national series of Teach-ins whenever they occur. So far, more than 100 schools participated on November 2nd and 3rd.

6. Locate a local Occupy Movement and make a cash donation.

7. Get informed and speak out. Tell your friends, family, people on the street, and even co-workers—if they ask—the goals of the protests and why you support the movement.

8. Read and circulate Nathan Schneider’s Occupy Wall Street FAQ from The Nation.

9. Create, print, and post fliers. The Smithsonian is already collecting Occupy signs. [You can vote on your favorite.]

10. Attend or organize a regional event

11. Like and share Occupy Together on Facebook, as well as all local protests you find on Facebook.

12. Follow @occupytogether on Twitter. Look for all local protests to follow, also.

Mad Mike’s America thanks and supports all Occupy protestors and The Nation.

Do you have any other ideas or suggestions about how we can support Occupy movements?
