General Petraeus for President?

Read Time:1 Minute, 43 Second

I said in my last submission to MMA that I have decided to vote for Newt Gingrich in the Republican primary.

As flawed as he is, Newt is the best and most prepared of all the candidates we have in the field. Unfortunately that is also a problem. The best we have to offer is the flawed Newt Gingrich.

I see no way that he could defeat President Obama. Not just because of the negatives that surround Gingrich for his many flip flops but his moral failings will make him vulnerable to vote dilution.  The fact is if someone who has an appeal to those who only cast votes based on their faith and moral code that will take votes from Newt. A third party candidate could conceivably take as much as 15 to 20 percent of the republican vote in a general election. Particularly if the candidate is well financed and of some stature.

It is for these reasons I believe it conceivable that we could end up with a brokered Republican convention. While this gets talked about in virtually every election, 2012 is the year it may happen, and not just a deal putting Romney and Gingrich on the ticket as president and vice president. It would be about casting them aside for a candidate the party and the independent voters could support.

In 1952 both parties courted General Eisenhower to be their presidential candidate. He chose the Republican party and I put him on the list of truly great presidents.   It’s not just the Republicans, but our nation needs another great American to lead us out of the darkness.

While I can live with President Obama and most certainly will have to should any of the current crop of republican candidates win the nomination, I know in my heart there are those more capable of the leadership and stature to rally our nation and the world to greater achievment.

There is one man I can think of who is this kind of person and that is General David Petraeus.

Yo dude! Everyone knows military bosses make lousy presidents, primarily because of Grant and Ike. He was a terrible general and a worse president. As to Petraeus what makes you think he’s even interested in the job?
