The Militant Atheist

When the media talking heads and others refer to a “militant atheist,” the object of their slander is usually a hapless atheist who had the unmitigated gall to openly question religious authority or vocally dare to express his or her views about the existence of a God.
Conventional wisdom tells us that such untoward conduct is shameful or, at the very least, distasteful, and as a result the brazen atheist is labeled “militant.”

Well, initially I hadn’t clicked on this post because I didn’t feel up for some substantive, thought-provoking article on the relative virtues or “sins” of atheism versus religion. Now I feel like a real dork for not seeing this earlier. The illustration says it all–great post!

To hide their ignorance and keep their fold in the fold, the idiots create bogeymen like militant atheists or liberal college professors.
I’d still love to meet a real life secular humanist that Jimmy Swaggert warns us about. I’ll bet that guy’s a riot.
