Holy Mitt – Mormons nervous about Romney

Read Time:1 Minute, 32 Second

The last republican president we had became the most unpopular person, not only in the US, but George W. Bush managed to alienate the whole world and Mormons are worried that an unpopular President Romney would reflect badly on the Mormon Church.

One of the main objectives of the Mormon Church is to not only baptize dead people, but to convert live ones into the Mormon fold and they are worried a Romney presidency might put a damper on their ambitions.

According to an excellent article by Troy Williams a failed Romney bid for the White House might be better for the Mormon Church.

Williams quotes Mormon leader Marlin Jensen who recently said Latter-Day-Saints are leaving the church in droves. The national backlash against the church involvement in Prop. 8 forced Mormon parents with a gay son or daughter to reconsider their devotion.

Mormon libertarians are trying to convince fellow churchgoers to stop supporting Mitt Romney, owing to his violent rhetoric on Iran and Russia. They say his opinions are not in line with the teachings of Joseph Smith.

If Romney is elected, hot button issues will come at him (and the Mormon Church) thick and fast. How President Romney might deal with them is giving the hierarchy in Salt Lake City a severe case of the twitches.

Mormons have a set of prophecies that foretell that the Mormons will take over the leadership of the United States in order to save the country. Then why are Mormons so nervous about a successful presidential bid by Mitt Romney? Perhaps its a case of ‘be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.’

Let us look at the bright side of Romney being the Republican nomination.

McCain didn’t run again this year, even though his ego would have let him, but neither party “allows” officially/unofficially to run for President again, once you lose the General Election.

So this November will finally kill this White Horse hopeful, and he can concentrate on running for Apostle instead.
