This is something that everyone needs to take a step back and think about, including the players. The ever increasing pressure of winning at all costs, the demands of ridiculously high salaries for some of the players, the demands of the fans for dramatic plays, and the need for tremendous profits by the owners is all out there for the world to see. In recent years the players have gotten bigger and faster and the collisions more intense and brutal. Junior Seau was known for his his aggressive, hard hitting play. His death saddens everyone that follows the game but at what point do we start teaching the players that their long term health is more important than being in on every play. Not being to be crass but the argument for players demanding the high salaries is that their careers are short lived. Maybe they need to keep them short instead of playing past their prime.
