Since when are liberals pro-abortion

Read Time:3 Minute, 18 Second

A friend of mine, someone I have known since second grade, just called liberals, once again, pro-abortion. For shit’s sake. No one I have ever met, spoken to or interviewed has ever said “I’m pro-abortion.” Women I am close to who have had abortions didn’t get pregnant specifically so they could have an abortion. There is NO Planned Parenthood “abortionplex.”

If you look at conservatives and liberals, really look at the two groups, you find that liberals are actually pro-life. We believe in helping the poor, the DREAM act, we do not support the death penalty, we oppose war and oppression and we are committed to social justice. Liberals would never cut social programs in order to fund the Defense Department. Liberals would never dismantle Social Security, Medicare and/or Medicaid in order to continue providing tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans. Liberals would never call Joe Arpaio a “hero,” call the poor “lazy,” or tell African Americans to get off welfare. Liberals know there are more whites on welfare than blacks, and we also know that for many families, government assistance is the only way to feed their families.

Mario Batali and his family spent a week eating on a food stamp budget. I don’t hear about conservatives doing that. In fact, Fox News, the only media site hypocritical enough for conservatives, slammed him for his actions. Greg Gutfield asked his Fox panel if they wanted to “slap him(Batali) around.” That’s pro-life? Making fun of someone trying to bring attention to the millions of families in America struggling just to eat?

Conservatives believe in saving the fetus, but will take every opportunity they can to belittle and threaten groups they despise. Look at Charles Worley. Now you know he calls himself “pro-life,” but he stood in front of his congregation this past weekend and advocated for the death of the entire LGBT community. My friend who called me pro-abortion hates, HATES, undocumented immigrants and believes they are lazy and stealing jobs and are all criminals. Conservatives hate the poor, blaming them for the ills of our country. If they didn’t hate the poor, odds are they wouldn’t be slashing safety nets (or as Paul Ryan called them, hammocks), cutting funding for free or low cost school lunches, fighting to defund Planned Parenthood and making it increasingly more difficult for poor women to receive health care.

So, who’s pro-life again? To a conservative, four cells knocking around in some woman’s uterus are more important than actual living, breathing people. A fetus is more important than a living child, especially if that living child is poor or a minority. A fetus is more important than a family of four who live below the poverty line, more important than a single mom or dad working two or three jobs, more important than everything and everyone. Kansas wanted to pass a bill that would make it legal for a doctor to lie to a woman about her own health if that knowledge might lead to her choosing to have an abortion. That’s not pro-life.

If my friend ever tries this again, I am going to take this article, fly to her house and staple it to her forehead. Every woman I know who has had an abortion did so only after much thought and soul searching. I do not believe conservatives spend nearly as much energy on their decisions to use electric fencing and starvation to “deal” with the LGBT community or when they cheer the state-sanctioned murder of an inmate or when they slash programs that help children eat in order to build more bombs.

Liberals are pro-life, in the literal sense of that phrase. Conservatives are pro-death, in the literal sense of that phrase.

Erin, perhaps the “good Christians” are hiding out of a sense of embarrassment for their far right brethren. It’s got to be hard for some to proclaim their faith openly when there are so many giving it a bad name.

Erin, I have always found it ironic that the right wing nut cases fight a woman’s right to choose on abortion and contraception, even in cases of rape or incest but once that child is born it becomes that woman’s problem. They want nothing to do with having to help her with the funding of the health care, education, or even feeding of the child. Not only that, but while they rant and rave about saving the little fetus the odds are that the forced childbirth often produces an unwanted child who, in many cases becomes the target of abuse and negligence. This then frequently ends up with new criminals being put on the street as well as, in the case of females, young girls who become promiscuous and produce another round of unwanted children. And the cycle continues. Then the good Christians wonder what is wrong with our society?

Agreed. I don’t know why neo-cons don’t get it. Most of them are probably good people at heart, but get one radical leader who likes Ayn Rand more than Jesus or likes Hitler more than Jesus and the Fundie Christians turn into blood thirsty murder-worshipers. I am just waiting for the day when witch-trials are the norm again. Will North Carolina or Alabama or Mississippi be the first to bring back the Scarlet letter? Maybe flogging or hanging in a public square? Maybe the town gets to rape women who are busted for prostitution? Is that how you like it, neo-cons?

I don’t know where the ones who are good at heart have been keeping themselves. Conservatives haven’t always been the fringe, but since Falwell and the “moral majority,” things have gotten out of hand. Never in my life, that I can recall, has one group of people despised and wished ill on so many in America.
